Pre Eclampsia developing at 35 weeks?

Hi Ladies.

I went to see a consultant yesterday at the ante natal clinic at my hospital. Up until now all of my ante natal checks have been carried out by a community midwife but she suddenly decided a few weeks ago that due to my raised BMI it might be an idea to speak to a consultant!!

Anyway, in I went with my little pee sample. I saw a midwife first and she checked my sample and found protein in it. She also took my blood pressure and it was a lot higher than normal. She then asked me about other symptoms I may have been experiencing like swollen feet, pain in my chest and I have had those too, but no headaches.

She ushered me into another room to wait for the consultant. She had a feel of bump and listened to him, (he is quite happy in there)!!. She also re took my BP which had come down slightly but said I need to see my midwife in a few days to check it again.

I just thought I was going to talk to them about not being able to have my baby on the birthing centre and have it on the normal delivery suite but instead it turns out that I may have pre eclampsia!!

I am due to see my midwife in the morning. Bet she won't be happy to see me. She cancelled my 36 week appointment and fobbed me off to the hospital instead but so glad she did now. I am presuming she will have to see me every week now to check my BP. That is so going to please her!!.

I am just wondering though at what point will they take any action ie induce my labour due to the condition as I know it can be dangerous for myself and the baby.

I want to have as much info for tomorrow as possible so I cannot be fobbed off by a midwife who couldn't care less about her patients!

Thanks,

Cathy xxx

a friend of mine also started showing symptoms of pre eclampsia at 35 weeks but she went on to have her baby at 40+5 without being induced. Was so so surprised as she was having to go in every few days for monitoring and had to stay overnight a few times etc, in the end they said she had pre eclampsia but still didnt induce her. I was always under the impression that if you had it then you had to be induced? Sorry i cant actually give you very much info, just thought i would share her experience with you.
xx

Thanks for your reply.

I am glad your friend was ok. I have been doing a bit of research online but my pc is on a go slow at the minute. (Think I am wearing it out on Ebay!!!

I read that they will only induce you if your condition becomes severe. In my case it would seem I am suffering only mild symptoms and the treatment is bed rest and monitoring of BP daily.

Only if they cannot get my BP to stabalise or I start experiencing severe headaches and severe swelling of hands face and feet do they class it as serious.

Bed rest sounds good to me!!
