So as I mentioned a week ago I was referred to someone today to talk about the possibility of being induced. I'd made my mind up that that was what I wanted to happen, because Im in a LOT of pain at the moment, and I can't possibly see myself being able to cope in a few weeks time when Im on maternity leave and in the house on my own.

So anyway, I went to the hospital today and saw a french lady, who I assumed was there to talk about the induction with me, and the physio I saw last week said she's be able to help with the pain to.

This lady doctor walked in, checcked my BP and urine, checked babys position and heartbeat and said 'Everything is fine, why are you here? is it the back pain you've been having?'. I told her I hadn't had a lot of back pain, I was there because that Ive got SPD. She told me it was fairly common and nothing to worry about. I explained that I couldn't open my legs and I was worried about childbirth and she said 'Thats not a common symptom of SPD... I need to speak to a specialist'. She went away, came back and said 'Its uncommon to not be able to open your legs with SPD at 34 weeks. I'd like to see you when you're due. 18th June'. Im due on the 2nd. Then she wrote on my notes 'MUST HAVE AN EPIDURAL'. Which she hadn't mentioned, and I hadn't agreed to.

By this point my boyfriend and I were fed up of arguing with her so booked another appointment on the 5th June instead.

So we left completely confused and disappointed and went to see my midwife. We talked to her about it and she said that SPD shouldn't limit how I give birth, Ill just have to adjust positions to a more comfortable one than on my back. She also said that I shouldn't have crutches, I didn't need a support belt, and that the risk of my pelvis splitting due to my legs being open too far was completely ridiculous. She also said there was no need for me to be booked in for a section or early induction because of this problem.

Ive been told different things by everyone and Im so confused

Oh Linzi, that must be so frustrating. I have no idea what to tell you.

I have no idea what to tell you only that as a SPD sufferer I know what pain you are in. I have been to the physio 4 times now I have a support belt & also crutches to use if I need to. I have also been told different things about giving birth. I personnaly feel listening to your post that you are being fobbed off & I would demand a second opinion. Another girl on the forum posted yesterday about her pelvis splitting during her last labour & I have also heard about others who have been left unable to walk following an epidural because of SPD??!! I hope I havent confused you more

i would def ring and ask for a second opinion re another appt and find out exactly whats what, demand they refer back to your notes and consult with the prior expert who spoke about being induced...its horrible being in the pain, you just want a safe way out so to speak

I don't really know what to ask if I go back because im so confused.

Im definately pleased that Im not having to have a section, and Im pleased I can just go naturally, but I'm a bit disappointed that Ive prepared myself to be induced and now it's not happening. I know it sounds daft but it was a big deal for me to have made that decision.

Also Im worried about how Im going to manage when Im not at work. Whenever Im at home at the moment, my OH is here to help me with the stairs, and at work the loos and kitchen and that are on the same floor so I dont have to worry too much about getting there. But I dont know what Im going to do when Im here on my own. Im dreading it
