My Husband is not allowed to cut Bubs' cord :(

Hey Ladies,

I've just been to an antenatal appointment and the midwife taking the class (who is my usual midwife) told us that the hospital we've booked in to won't allow partners to cut cords.
I'm a bit miffed actually as is my husband. Anyone else's hospital have this policy in place?

She just said that unfortunately partners are not allowed to cut the cord anymore so we do that for you. I wanted to ask why but I'm quite shy and didn't want to speak in front of everyone!
I hope it's just a nonsense health and safety thing where they say that but actually let you do it.. I hope so anyway. I thought it was odd.
I'll ask her at my next one to one appointment.

That sucks. I wonder if they have had an incident with partners cutting the cord. Though in fairness the midwife looking after the lady should be responsible for making sure the cord in cut correctly, whoever does it.

That's so lame! I wonder why they won't let him do it

I just assumed all hospitals would allow the birthing partner to cut the cord if they wanted to, so now I'm crossing my fingers, although it really isn' that big of a deal but I'd like my OH to!
