Nuchal Fold? - Page 2

I am also in NI and havne't had a Nuchal scan. I would have declined it anyway, seein as it is only a screenign test, not a definite answer, and I already have one son with Downs and it is irrelevant to me whether this baby (babies, twins) has Downs.

I am not sure if there are ethical issues with testing for Downs in NI due to the situation with terminations overe her. I am not sure if they would even do one if there was a problem with baby. One of my membranes ruptured at 14+5 which means that baby statistically has litle chance of survival, and I have a huge risk of infection. In England women are offered a termination in these circumstances but I have been told they don't offer that over here. (not that I would have one anyway)

It is absolutely clear that where you live affects the advice you are given!

My understanding is this..

Some but not most NHS Trusts will offer the nuchal scan at 12 weeks. If not your midwife should have at least mentioned this so that you could have considered if you wanted to pay for a private nuchal scan.

If you do not have a nuchal scan at 12 weeks you should have had the triple blood test done at 16 weeks? (but it is not advised to have both) Could you check your records for this?

My nuchal fold was measured again at 20 weeks (not because I asked but because the radiographer mentioned it.. perhaps because I am over 35?) so it might also be worth checking your 20 week scan although I can find no reference to the nuchal fold in my 20 week scan notes?

I think checking your bloods at 16 weeks (if they were done) is your best bet!
