gotta love the mother in law - not!

so I ring the MIL this morning to tell her that mw appt went really well, no signs of pre-eclampsia (as I had with DD) etc etc...

and then she goes off on a tangent, telling me for the upteenth time about how when she was pregnant with her middle son he got into distress , and how they left a load of placenta in her and she got septicemia and how they both almost died...

sorry for the overshare, but WHAT ON EARTH possesses her to tell me this stuff when I had a traumatic birth with DD 3yrs ago and I am due to give birth in THREE WEEKS!

Seriously, people are STUPID!

Agreed that some people are stupid!
I've had more than my fair share of people's birth stories, repeated to me umpteen times.
Really gets on my nerves so I know how you feel.
Take no notice - easier said than done though I know!!

She is probably scared that history will repeat itself and feels that by sharing she can prevent this from happening. Its selfish and clearly fulfils her own need to resolve past issues, but she probably is incapable of seeing it this way.

People ARE stupid, plain and simple. She obviously doesn't have a filter and just says what she wants to say without thinking. If she is going to do that for the rest of your appointments, I would just have your OH call her instead and he can deal with that! Don't let her stress you!

At least your MIL waits until you call her to ask about your MW appointments! I'm usually still AT the appointment when she starts calling, wanting to know how it went! And she wants to know everything before my own mother knows! I've taken to ignoring the phone, and OH answers it and talks to her. Then afterwards, I tell him how the appointment really went (all the little extras, other than "all is well") so he doesn't get a chance to tell her first! Childish, I know. But she drives me nuts!
Oh, and she's a nurse too...so I've heard my fair share of birthing stories, despite the fact that she's never worked on a maternity ward.... but whatever. I just ignore her.

Mine keeps telling me I will only need gas and air. How on earth will my MIL know what I will and will not need. She also likes to tell me I am not eating for two so do not need loads. Then I get told I should not buy baby clothes yet as it is to early. I can go on and on about her. I have learnt to switch off and do my own thing..lol I am not looking forward to what she will be like once LO is born. As she keeps saying she knows best. GRRRRRR
