In a word no! They're not safe full stop, but when you're pregnant your skin is more sensitive to damage. Plus the heat and light isn't a great environment for baby

It is not safe at all. The results are coming in fast on sunbeds and the only reason some people still think they're safe is because the research about them being unsafe is still relatively new, as they are just recently (in the grand scheme of things) starting to take note of the rates of skin cancer in young women and the use of sunbeds. They are already in talks in some places about putting laws in place about under 18's using them, and the time will come when they will probably ban them or severely restrict their use.

It's not entirely unlike the smoking debate in the end. Knowing that smoking kills 1 in 3 from lung cancer, is it ok to puff on that odd cigarette? It's really up to yourself in the end. A lot of people know the cancer risks of sunbeds but justify that occasional use is ok. You have to be comfortable with your choice on that in the end - the data is pretty clear and getting clearer all the time, so just like any exposure to a known carcinogen, it's down to you what levels of it you're ok with exposing yourself to.

Yip I feel your pain - i'm the same. I used sunbeds quite regulary before finding out I was pregnant and I haven't been on one since as I dont want to risk doing harm to baby. I can't fake tan to save myself I always end up a streaky mess. Not that long to go now! xx

I've never had luck with fake tan stuff either...no matter how smoothly I've tried putting it on, I inevitably have streaks and it looks too unnatural. Plus I noticed it interacts with my body chemistry in a way that makes me stink, lol

I'm more of the opinion that people should feel comfortable embracing their natural skin type as when it's taken care of and ''used'' in the right way, it can look really lovely and not ''pastey white''. Also, anyone I know who's either been in the sun or used sunbeds regularly during their life develops more wrinkles and look more aged quicker than those who don't, which is another reason I avoid baking in the sun too much (and sunbeds).

Im sure i read on the sign at the sunbed shop (i was waiting for a free one and was rather bored) that pregnant women shouldnt go on i don't think it gave a reason just that they werent allowed on .
I just assumed you couldnt but i could be very wrong! I never really agreed with sunbeds anyways and only went on to try and sort out my heat rash.

I'd use fake tan but i know its tricky to get perfect and not as good as a real tan but then again id be willing to risk having a patch rather than risk skin cancer

Sunbeds are not safe whether you're pregnant or not. I've seen so many young women who have the nasty habit of sunbedding with melanomas (skin cancer) in their 20's and 30's (I'm a physician)... NOT good stuff!
