Nice, it is in keeping what Dr. Michel Odent writes (I just skimmed the article for now, will read it later, when I got the right mood). I just read his book on Birth and Breastfeeding. Helps to relax about the labour, but, on the other hand, makes more nervous about having to go to hospital lol... I wish I had a choice, but I am too chicken to do it at home with the first baby

My DH thinks I am mad as I am going to get "Childbirth without Fear". I would like to avoid drugs, not because I am a 'hippy' (I am about as far removed from an earth mother as you can get!) but because I have SPD and am terrified the medical staff will pay no attention to my pain free gap or my DH.

Ivybaby - I love the idea of a homebirth too but a) I am too scared with my first and b) I don't know where we will be living then!

after reading it then it makes sense why DS arrived in the way he did and has given me some thinking points that hopefully will make this time a better experience

Whilst I agree that a positive mental attitude is definitely a major factor, I am still scared of falling off logs

totally agree with this. My first labour was an absolute nightmare as i was terrified. My 2nd and third were amazing. On my third I was checked at 10.30am and was told i was 3 - 4 cm. Said i needed to push at 10.45am was told that it was unlikely but to do what my body wanted. Caleb was born at 10.50am. Hopefully I am this lucky again!

Still very scared about labor. Terrified, truth be told.

I'm ONLY 26 weeks weeks and I can't do the whole topiary thing anymore! I am going to book a beauty treatment between now and the big day. Not that I am expecting to have anyone taking photos of that moment, but it's driving me mad already!

In my own personal experience, while I was induced and had my baby in the hospital, I went into labor with a very open mind. I was not adverse to drug intervention, but didn't go in thinking I have to have drugs or even that I don't want drugs. I made absolutely no birth plan, other than my plan to roll with the punches. I went into my own little world, did what felt right for my body (which even included doing a sort of hula dance type thing in the middle of the hospital hallway while I was walking lol) and found it to be a very pleasant (for lack of a better word) experience. I had a 10 pound son in a total of 5 and a half hours, using only gas as my drug. I never once felt out of control or that the pain was too much to handle.
I think that many women go into labor with a specific plan or idea of how they want things to go, but if you aren't willing to be open minded and do what feels right, you will end up with more pain and problems.
I also went in with an open mind and no plan last time, but it didn't go well for me... Way too much intervention to allow labour and birth to progress in a normal, physiological fashion, not being allowed to move, being stuck on my back, strapped to a bed and monitors... So this time i Have a plan... I am willing to be open minded as well, but I want as little intervention as possible and I want the atmosphere to be kept quiet and peaceful.... so my plan is centred around that.

They quote Dr "O' Dont" quite a lot (that's what I meant about how it's a shame they got his name wrong!!)

My friend said it was like shelling peas! She's great to talk to when feeling nervous about labour.
