I wouldn't mind if she was outside, then I suppose she can have a look at the baby as soon as he arrives...

I'll have to see what their policy is on people waiting around while im in labour.. whats the norm?? are people allowed to wait around??

I couldn't think of nothing worse! lol

I get on with my MIL but not that much! I think its a very personal thing between me and my OH and i want time just the three of us. He has already told his family not to come down to the hospital until visiting times. I want time to recover a little and be on my own with baby and OH. They've got plenty of time to see her once shes born

I think you can have 2 people only on the labour ward with you, even if one is standing outside the room you're birthing in. I think it's for security reasons but you can have as many as you like actually at the hospital usually. Just get them to wait outside the ward or in the cafe.

Yeah see I think it's best everyone waits then, I'd feel bad for my mum if I told MIL to come and wait..

Like Jules said they will have plenty of time to see the baby later or the next day depending on when he's born..

for me giving birth is something very intimate!

I think, I wouldn't even like to have my own mother around!

yes, well they can wait in hospital and as soon as you are on the postnatal they can all come and see the baby "fresh"

but also depends on the time bubs is out, as postnatal ward has visitor times

Personally I wouldn't have my OH's mother in but I suppose it depends how close you are to your MIL. I would just tell her that it wouldn't be fair to have her there and not your own mother so your only lettin OH be there.

I've asked my mum if she would like to be there for the actual birth as well as my OH. She was there for my sisters labour as we are adopted so my mum has never experienced all that before and she loved it the last time so I thought it would be nice to let her in on mine too. She's very excited. x

All I want is my partner and I in the birthing room but my parents and OH parents will be in the waiting room why I deliver and can see the baby after I've fed and we've had some time alone first.

ACK! NO WAY. My inlaws aren't even allowed to come VISIT me in in the hospital! I want Charlotte around them as little as humanly possible. Egads...in the delivery room with you? ICK!

~~~ In case you can't tell my in-laws and I don't get on well together. FIL calls my family all sorts of insulting things (my dad is in prison for a bit and they don't have a lot of money. my IL's are well off) and he calls me fat and lazy and wishes I had never married his son. Of course, they NEVER say this stuff when DH is around so he doesn't 100% believe they say this to me and thinks I exaggerate and says that they LOVE me. HA!
Oh no they sound a nightmare!!!
Well I have to say I DID have my MIL when I had my daughter! It wasn't planned I can assure you, it just happened that way. When my waters broke, my OH panicked and called his mum so she came over and then came to the hospital with us where we met my mum. I think my MIL was going to stay for so long and then go but it just didn't happen! She just stayed! It actually was ok cos when things turned dodgy (Faith was breech and they didn't know!), my mum and OH recoiled in horror and were frozen in shock at everything going wrong, my MIL took control and explained to me what was happening and helped me through it. She ended up being a star and kept her cool throughout bless her. Saying that I'm not sure whether I'll have her again, we'll just have to see! I had to laugh at my mum the other day saying she wanted to be there again incase anything happened and she needed to speak up for me and I replied "what like last time where you stood there frozen!"LOL!!!
Not a bloody chance in hell!!!!!!! The only people in there will be me (obviously) & my partner!!! (oh and a midwife hehe) I couldn't cope with any of my partners family!! They are a total nightmare & I don't get on with them! They were totally unsupportive of the baby when they 1st found out, his sister kicked me in my tummy when I was 12 weeks pregnant and told me that if she didn't kill us both before she was born she would after!! Now they are just false, she gave me a 1/2 hearted apology and his family called me a liar even though my partner was there when she did it!! And now they want to be at the birth and his mum told me she was coming to stop at our house for a few weeks when she is born!!!!! I think i'm emigrating lol!!!!!
Sorry I have blabbed a bit, its just a very sensitive subject lol!
