Mucus plug - confused by ante-natal class?

Yesterday, amongst the usual (TMI!!!) substances which have made their home in 'chez vayjayjay' since becoming pregnant lol, was a gloop of what I can only describe as clear jelly. Sounds a bit gross but it was completely different & apart to any usual discharge (aach I was trying to avoid that word lol but looks like it was necessary ).
In other words, I've never seen anything like it before.

So I was at my first antenatal class today (yeah... starting late) & they were talking about the signs of labour including a mucus plug. So I blurted out as much as I felt comfortable in front of the other three ladies which was "is it like goo or jelly & totally distinguishable from normal discharge?" and the midwife says yes. I think it might be a piece of that, but she then said that it doesn't mean your about to go into labour as it could still be a few days away & was a sign things were changing.
Necessarily days? Or can this happen say 4 weeks before and the midwife just didn't mention that bit? I was under the impression it could happen a few weeks early.

I don't feel particularly laboury and am not expecting to as am still a few weeks too early (whilst I was born 2 weeks late ), I have irregular BHs but they don't hurt just a bit tight particularly round the ribs. (Although MIL, of course has been touching my stomach going OMG contractions but both her children were early & her contractions didn't hurt so I imagine shes just ultra paranoid lol)

I have been getting gloops of what I can only guess is the mucussy plug for a while now am not in labour yet. I think it's all a bit weird and vague but from what I can gather the mucus plug can grow back and thicken up again.
I'm also guessing that this bit of mucus plug is an indictaion of effecement (another word that confused hell out of me and this is my third.) but from what I gather the plug is like really thick during pregnancy as time gets closer it thins down so 100% effaced is like compltely thinned out and only cervixe left, whereas 25% effaced is only slightly thinned out. I'm guessing and I could be completly wrong, but part of the mucus plug is to do with effacement, but no it does not mean impending labour.

I thin and in my experience sorry if tmi you lose a mucus plug and then when cervix thinned out you have a bloody show which is basically the last bit of the seal. I have always found that I loose this mucusy bit, earlier was it seems with each baby but my bloody show is the sign that says yep real labour starting and for me occurs around 3-4 cm diulated.

LOL hope that helps and doesn't just confused the hell out of you, lol.

I lost mine bit by bit and the main part went 2 weeks before my due date and im still jumping about trying to start labour so yes im pretty sure its possible to lose it a few weeks befor, its even possible to lose bits or bulk of it a month or so before and then have it reform itself thats why its not a brilliant indicator of labour.
