No you dont have a say. Each hospital has a standard of how long they will allow you to go overdue.

For me I was told at my appointment at 38+1 that at my next appointment at 40+1 I would get a sweep if my cervix was favourable. Well, it was not favourable so I was booked in for an induction for "term plus 12" which is standard in my hospital. I also have a sweep on wednesday to try that before induction if my cervix allows it. I dont think, if you are well, they induce before 7-8 days. So it should be an induction between 41 and 42 weeks. anything after 42 weeks can be leaving it too late. I am glad my hospital didnt try inducing too soon as i am really wanting to go into labour on my own.

HTH

yeah the thing is if u havent gone into labour by urself then it means u r not ready and the longer u leave it the more likely the induction will work...u dont want to end up with a failed induction and a c section xx

Not sure about the UK, but in USA you have the right to refuse any and all medical interventions. Doctor's don't normally tell you that, but the informed consent laws say you can refuse to be induced. I wouldn't let someone induce me until I'm past 42 weeks, as that's when you really are over due. If baby sounds fine, no reason to induce.

you can choose to go over 42wks here but it normally means getting monitored daily to make sure everything is still ok,

personally id rather get my sweep at 40+3 and have it work or go before then due to other health issues

In the UK they tend to decide as the others have said.
