Vomitting bright red water????

All day yesterday I was feeling very uncomfortable with heartburn and constant burping.

Then, at the end of the day I ended up vomitting but all that came out was bright red water and lots of it - Sorry if this is TMI it looked like Ribena.

I didn't eat anything that was remotely near the colour red - it tasted very acidic.

Is this normal? I was thinking of calling the MW but thought I'd check on here first.

I've never heard of it- call your MW, vomiting bright red for no reason is bad news even when you're not pregnant! Sure it's nothing serious but always better to get checked out IMO

Are you sure it wasn't blood? I'd call your midwife to be safe it doesn't sound too healthy. Normally when you have nothing in your stomach you will vomit frothy stuff or yellow bile but nothing red. xxx

I have been vomitting liquid for ages. I get acidy reflux and retching after eating, but then sometimes vomit later. When I vomit I feel much better. It is kind of projectile, in that it just gushes out. The vomit is pink water rather than bright red, but it does seem as though I had been drinking ribena.

I have seen my doctor and I complained that I vomitted a long time after food and loads of water came out even though I had been to the loo loads. She said that the stomach is full of water and this wasn't surprising. She gave me laxatives because I was constipated and anti-sick tablets.

I took the laxatives which were good, but only a few of the anti sick tablets because they made no difference to how I was feeling. The retching is from the throat rather than the stomach.

I have also told my midwife about it on my last 2 appointments. They both said they have never heard of it and how unlucky I was (so, not much help there either).

Does any of this sound familiar to you?

Yes actually a lot of sounds the same as what I've been experiencing although I haven't really experienced constipation. I called my MW and she said that it could be that I was wretching which burst a blood vessel which caused the redness. She said that there is a SLIGHT possibility it could be a stomach ulcer but the chances are very slim, and that I should monitor how often I am vomitting and whether I am vomitting up blood everytime. She told me not to worry and that if it happens a few more times, to inform her.

I hope this also helps you because it's really put my mind to rest.

Ahh, i had problems with my stomach before I fell pregnant and then after about 24wks+ i started getting real bad sickness because of the heartburn and acid and stuff, not because i felt sick... because it felt like i was being burned from the inside and thats the way my body reacted i guess.. if you understand that at all lol.

Got advised twice to go to a+e because i was vomiting blood, and they checked the baby and told me to keep taking 'ranitidine' (ask your doc or midwife to prescribe it for you if you havent already got it, its safe in pregnancy and its tons better than gaviscon or rennies etc.) They say that if there is an underlying problem such as stomach ulcers or whatever they will not do any investigations until after the baby is born unless the risk to you is very high, and basically tell you to get on with it! Well at least thats what they have told me where i am!

I found that in my last few weeks it has eased off slightly becacuse of the baby dropping and was probably at its worst 32-35 wks and gradually got better.

Best wishes!!
