Swelling

At what point ladies, do you contact MW about swelling in the ankles and hands??

I have not swelled at all during my PG until the last 24 - 48 hours and its not bad, but ankles and hands are definatly slightly swollen.

I drink loads of water every day, don;t think I can drink anymore!
Thanks

for about the past week my fingers and toes have been swollen - I mentioned it to the midwife at my appointment yesterday and she sai as long as it is not severe and my BP is not high its nothing to worry about - she said she would be surprised of i hadnt had any swelling by now!

Yep, mine too. I only started swelling after wk 35 and I think as flumpy says it's not a concern unless it's severe and your blood pressure is high.

Apparently it's to do with all the extra blood being pumped around our body just now.

I have extreme swelling from my toes to the top of my leg - my ankles and knees completely disappear. I am now waking up in the morning with swelling in my face (especially bad under and above my eyes) and still they keep dismissing it as a normal pregnancy symptom. My b/p is raised (from 90/60 to 122/90), but as it was always low to start with - it isn't raised enough for them to be worried.

Personally I dont think any swelling this bad is normal - yet they keep ignoring me!!!

So to be honest - who knows what is normal and what isn't.

Sorry to hear your swelling has just started...it really isn't pleasant at all and I've found it just keeps getting worse too.

hey Ju

Weirdly this has happened to me over this weekend and week. I went to my gp yesterday to have my bp checked and they checked my ankles too which is odema...but my bp is high so have been signed off work for 2 weeks.

I'd say got to see your gp/nurse if you can to at least get your bp checked and take it from there.

How are you feeling otherwise?

Nic xx

some swelling is definately just part and parcel of being pregnant, i would get your blood pressure checked though hun just to be on safe side. Do you have headaches and or dizziness?
