There's nothing worse. Have you got ointment for it?

Ok, there are a couple of things you can use to help with this...

First of all warm compresses on the eyes. Then also, bathing your eyes is good, but try adding some baby shampoo to the cool boiled water (approx 1 part baby shampoo to 9 parts water)... Baby shampoo shouldn't irritate the eyes and will help to clear out the "gunk"!

There are antibiotic eyedrops called Chloramphenicol which you can either get from GP or now over-the-counter also, which as far as I can remember are safe to use in pregnancy.

But, there is a chance it may not be conjunctivitis, but an allergic reaction... particularly as hay fever is doing the rounds big time at the moment. If this is the case, still do the compresses and bathing with the baby shampoo, but there are different drops (antihistamine ones called Opticrom) which will help keep it under control.

Us opticians aren't usually useful during pregnancy.... but we have our moments!! Hope this helps!

Oh... and remember, if it is conjunctivitis it is HIGHLY contagious... so make sure you don't share face-cloths or towels with anyone and wash your hands after any eye contact!
