learning general care info...

i was just wondering, how do you learn all the stuff that needs to be learnt for looking after a new baby?... i know this may sound silly, but how do you know how often they need feeding etc? will the nurses give you guidlines when youve had your baby? do you need to buy certain books?

its mainly the frequency of feeds that im wondering about.. but im sure there are other things that new mums (1st timers especially) will need to know that we may not have picked up from forums, books etc?

If you deliver in a good hospital the midwifes in your ward will show you how to make up feeds and bath and change nappies and other general things, it will be nerver wracking but once the motherly instinct kicks in you will be fine.

im on baby number 3 and things have changed a lot since my other 2 so i will be larning new things as well, x

It does click into place after a few days, with my daughter i got her home and was so confused about the steriliser and all the neighbours came in and showed me what to do, which was entertaining to say the least.

The most important thing to remember that your baby will be getting to know you as much as you will be getting to know him or her and once your both comfy with each other then things do click into place, good luck,xx

aww bless dont worry when i had my daughter i was barely 18 the nurses showed me how to feed, and then instinct takes over, i promise you'll be fine, they mostly need feeding every 2/3 hours as a newborn, they will let you know they are hungry! promise! to begin with when i had her, it was a case of elmination, she cried, was she wet? dirty? cold?tired? hungry you'll soon pick the differences up,
but dont be afraid to ask the midwives and health visitors for help x
