OT (KINDA) doggy

well me and DH had a long talk today about our doggy that we've had for 4 years. I got him from my dad when he passed 4 years ago, but have tried everything to potty train him and stuff, but he basically refuses to train. He will hold it and hold it .. and once we get in the house he pisses and craps on the floor. Also when we tried the rub your nose in it trick.. He has bite me a few times and snapped a DH.

So me and DH decided with baby due any day now.. its safer for all of us to just take him to a adoption place. im sad, but also feel its for the best...

Kinda pointless post, just needed a little encouragement to know im doing the right thing.

I think you'd be able to break the dog of his bad potty habits with a bit of work. If you're willing to work with him before going the adopting out route, this website: http://www.humanesociety.org/animals...g_puppies.html has fantastic tips that have helped our dogs be housebroken when they were pups.

Oh, and the site says for puppies but you can still break an older dog of his bad potty habits!

We have honestly tried everything. And he refuses to listen to anyone. the only one he really ever listened to is my dad who passed. But then once he passed he got attitudy, and mean.

I dont think rubbing your dogs face in its own mess will make it realise that what it has done is wrong! Its you that is doing something wrong, you mostly find its never the dogs fault! I suggest you get some professional help before as most end up being put to sleep once they go to adoption centers. There is plenty of help available, but you dont want a snappy dog around your LO either hope you can get help and figure it out and manage to keep your doggy

This may be bad advice, but, my sister had an older dog who refused to train also. She gave him to my mom, and I didnt want her getting rid of him so I asked her to let me try. Me and my bf(at the time) took him for walk, and I asked my bf to pee in the bush, and I praised him and praised him, then gave him a dog treat lol, I know, its kinda wierd, but it really worked! Just dont let the cops catch ya pee'ing in public

Hahah HappyMamma! too funny.

We have hired a professional trainer and everything. Nothing has worked. the only thing we havent tried is the electric shock collars. Which i dont believe in.. so i wont use that on him. This adoption center DOES NOT put animals down. Unless they are proven to be vicious. 90% of the people who work there are volunteers.. just people who LOVE animals and want to help

Have you tried crate training him? If you have and he still goes to the bathroom in his crate there's either something wrong with the dog or the crate's too big. I dunno, if you feel putting him up for adoption is best then of course it's best for you and your family Just shooting off ideas!

I was just about to suggest crate training too. Also how old is your dog? I agree maybe something is wrong with him and he just needs to be checked by a vet. We had this issue too and we just ended up walking him as often as possible, like letting him out every hour in the yard whether or not he wanted to go. That helped and he got used to going outside. Also, re: vet - do check him, my cat who never missed her litter box suddenly started peeing on the floor, we took her to her vet and they found her teeth was bothering her - they removed the teeth and she is back to her fav litter box. Who knows, they can't really communicate any other way and usually both dogs and cats are pretty good at masking health issues, they just start doing something very different when something is bugging them.

Well...to be honest if he is at all dangerous I would probably put him up for adoption. As long as the adoption place does not put dogs down that is.

I dont think Id want a dog that could possibly harm my baby

But Im sorry to hear your having so many issues
