Look non of you know my situation. i love my dog, but yes i did take him to a shelter last night. I thought long and hard about it, and they are a great place. Its not like "normal" shelters. They have these crate kinda things but pretty big actually, and they have a blanket and water for the dogs. Then once the shelter opens at 8am they check the crates take them out and clean them, play with them, feed them, even neuter them. They do not need to know a reason as to why he is up for adoption unless you want them to know. I did not "fear" my dog for biting me, im sure he was frustrated jus as i was. i just felt that he needed a better home now and someone who could give him all the attention he ever wanted.
This shelter only kills if the animal is vicious and attacks them like some sort of beast or something. Which is not how my doggy was. SO what they will be doing is neutering him and giving him a fancy lil haircut and then potty train him.. then up for adoption he goes. They have all kinds of animals there too. Like cats, rabbits and ferrets that they put up for adoption. It is a wonderful adoption center. I would NEVER take my dog to a place that i would think they would kill him.

I think you did the right thing, both for yourself and for your dog

Thank you Sandrass

Everyone on here has made me feel like im a horrible person and didnt even put my dogs feelings or anything into consideration. When i have! i put my familys which includes him into consideration. He will have a great home.. and someone who doesnt have a newborn who can give him all the attention in the world and a backyard to run and play in.

I hope your dog can find another good home. Will they let you know if they do?
Someday though, you may want to get your child a puppy and before you ever do get another dog, you must learn to become the pack leaders and to understand dog behavior and what a dog expects from you or else the next dog will run all over you too. I have raised quite a few large dogs and have 4 dogs now and each one has tested me with aggression and tried to bite me at some point in their development. If you are not going to be the dominant leader/person, then they will be and they would know the truth. I don't tolerate one second of aggressive behavior and I have thrown down with them so they know who is boss. The first snap should have been the last in your case and probably would have solved the potty issues as well because I think your dog was disrespecting you big time, right to your face. I hope this will help you in the future. And remember that children test us too. Horses do too and I admit that I fail with horses. I get scared that I am going to hit the dirt and that it will be bad when I do. So I have lots of dogs and no horses and lost of sheep and cows. I guess we all choose what we are willing to tackle and horses eat too much to really tempt me to take the trouble.

Thanks for the imput Prairie. Yes, i do believe it should have stopped the first time the aggression came. But i didnt want to hit him so i really didnt know how to let him know im the pack leader and not him. But 1 day when me and DH and baby move to a house with a backyard, we will get a dog again. In the mean time before then i will learn more on how to be a pack leader. But for right now.. i dont have the time or patience, and he deserved someone who did.

Maybe you're just sensitive and picking up on those whose comments were negative, but I don't think it's fair to say ''everyone on here'' made you feel that way. You got quite a lot of support as well.

Being the pack leader doesn't mean hitting. Going off Prairie's suggestions for if you should decide to get a dog in the future, I recommend checking out The Dog Whisperer - not just the show but maybe the books and videos and whatnot too. If he doesn't resonate with you, there are other well-known dog professionals that might and worth having a look see when the time comes!

I didnt really mean EVERYONE in a literal sense. I guess i should have worded that differently. When the time comes i think that would be good idea, i have a friend you has a bunch of seasons of The Dog Whisperer, and Books from it.
