Babies heart rate higher then usual

Hey girls! I just got back from my appt with my doctor and everything seemed to be good, but when using the doppler he had said that her HB is a little high, it was at 180...Usually she has a perfect HB, i asked if this was ok or what and when he did the scan to see her he said its ok cause she's active.

So my question is what would make her HB rise so high compared to 3 weeks ago???

I'm guessing she was moving around. My boy is always moving when they put the monitor on and they have to wait for him to calm down some. At my last appointment his heart rate was 190bpm to start with and dropped down to 150bpm by the time they took the doppler away. MW said that was normal and healthy.

Are you sure she's a girl? I think boys usually have higher heart rates, could be wrong though....

Activity!

I had a CTG on Saturday and bubs was doing gymnastics in there and his HB (usually around 130bpm) was around 170bpm!!

They had to do another one when he had calmed down and that was fine.

I think the doppler wakes them up!! Try and do it at a time when they're usually 'sleeping' and try not to worry!

My daughters heart rate did this too and i was in hospital being monitored (not coz of heartrate) and when on the monitor it was up at 190 - i was in a panic as it was so high but they said if yours is high or baby is active then its ok to go that high. My daughter is now here and is a healthy wee girl :-)

this happened to me only the other week..was in hospital on the monitor after a bleed and babies HB suddenly soared up to 190..and stayed there for 5 mins..I couldnt feel her moving..but the doctor said she was as the machine was picking up lots of movements and said bubs may have been turning round and thats why her HB was high..they reassured me that as long as it comes back down again, they dont worry

I am absolutely sure that if you listened in when baby is active you will get accelerations like that at your doctors. Accelerations are healthy and reassuring. As for the gender, the relation between heart rate and gender has been proven to be rubbish. Every baby at some point in the pregnancy will have a high and low reading depending on he/she activity. So one minute it will be a girl and next a boy heart rate according to the old wive tale.

It is more of a worry if a baby's heart rate didn't react/accelerate during active periods. A reassuring CTG for example includes accelerations.

Yep, if the baby was moving, them the heart rate will make a huge jump and stay there for a little while, especially through the entire time it is moving, squirming, anything.

If the baby is very still and not moving or squirming, and the heart rate is steadily over 160, then they can become concerned, but as long as the baby is moving, then he heart rate you gave is great.
