Anyone here a doula in the Somerset area, used one in the Somerset area or know of 1?

I've found 2 on the directory, but one of them is not suitable to me, so I contacted the one that is and am waiting to hear back.

I wonder if anyone here knows of any others. I've been debating for a while whether to maybe have a doula as although my husband will be great, I do feel he is going to need some support and we don't have much family between us. What I have in terms of family and friends, is miles away, and I can't really think of any I'd feel comfortable having in there with me.

For the sake of £200-300, which we could easily afford (it's my HIP grant plus a bit extra to be honest!), my husband could have that expert support, and so could I.

I wonder if anyone knows any in the Somerset area? I know there are a few ladies thatuse this site who work as a doula.

Hi there - I've just checked on the Doula UK website and it seems there are 4 or 5 doulas in the Somerset region. I know a few of them and they are lovely.

I am Mentor to one of them, so I know her pretty well and think she's great. Her name is Ella. As a trainee doula (working under my guidance) she would be in you price range.

Just click on 'find a doula' on the Doula UK website and then click on the map.

Good luck and hope the birth goes wonderfully.

I would love a Doula. Unfortunately not an option due to cost (we already used the HiP grant to pay off our travel system), plus DH isn't keen, he's not comfortable with anyone other than him and the required medics being in the room.

Lots of fathers feel understandably concerned about such things. It's really easy to see how your hubby might feel concerned that a doula might get in between you but a doula is there just as much for him as for you. All doula would say that once a father meets a doula and has it explained to them how we are there to support him too, they usually then 'get it'.

As to the money - no doula will let that get in the way of a couple needing support - almost all of us will be able to make suggestions like paying in installments, give discounts or, if you qualify, refer you to the Doula UK Hardship fund. Doula UK also sells vouchers, so family and friends can contribute to the cost - much nicer than yet another babygrow!
