You're very clever!
Well he is dark, but his parents are light (mum ginger, dad light brown). Could go either way I guess.

You on the other hand could be 'BB' brown dominant gene from each of your parents OR 'Bb' you could carry a recessive blue gene from way back when somewhere, and STILL look brown eyed for both these.

If you carry a BB genotype, all your babies will ALWAYS be brown eyed because you will always contribute the dominant B gene to their makeup. (Obviously there are more alleles involved in eye color so ALWAYS is not a real good indicator of genetics, but I hope you get the idea.)

But if you carry a recessive blue in there 'Bb' you only have a one in two chance of throwing a brown eyed child. And all your kids will have one recessive blue gene. Bb = brown eyes, bb = blue eyes.

B b <---Your genotype
b Bb bb <--- Your kids' genotype
b Bb bb "

one of my best friends is really ginger with skin the colour of milk, green eyes and covered in freckles. her mum is portuguese with dark olive skin, black hair and dark eye AND her dad has black hair too, although hes english. but her little brother is dark skinned and looks mixed race. its only from way back in her dads line that shes come to look like how she does. so u cant really know what ur baby is going to look like, because they could take genes from way back or they could be the image of either you or ur OH

Me and Rich are both whiter than white. If our kid is ginger she's never going to be able to leave the house in the sun.

my bf is kenyan and has DARK skin and i have quite pale olive kind of skin with light brown curly hair and hazel eyes. therefore i already know for certain that he/she will have brown skin (not sure how dark though), probably brown eyes (i doubt it will take green eyes from my mum) and black or brown hair.

LOL, same with us! I'm light and blonde, DH is REALLY light and red. I'm already stocking up on baby sunscreen! I found one that is SPF 80...I think she'll have to LIVE in it!

Most likely yes. But again genetics deal with mom and dad and any recessive genes they may carry from ancestors. (as someone just noted)

So, that's why "Uncle Frank and his wife who are native Italians and who have dark hair, green eyes, and olive skin have a fair haired redhead child." Somwhere in either of their lineages SOMEONE was carrying the gene for these phenotypes.
