Hello - i went in to be induced only to find out that i was 2 cm already, so didnt need the gel to start me off, but what i did need in the end is the drip, to speed up contractions i was 8cm when i had that put in, so they wouldnt allow me an epi... i wont lie soon as the drip was put in, the contractions where non stop, it killed... so i would say if you do end up needing a drip then to not rule out having an epi! i only ended up having gas and air in the end ( life saver ) hope the induction goes well x

I was induced on Monday, started with a pessary which started my contractions albeit midly. Pessary was fine going in, felt a bit like having a sweep. For some people thats enough on its own. On Tues I was then started on a drip of syntocin. Really kickstarted the contractions. Even though its a drip I was still fully mobile being able to use a birthing ball and move around the room. Because of the drip baby was monitored all the time which was reasurring. I managed on gas and air for most of the labour and needed an epidural for the last hour. Syntocin makes the contractions really intense but when it was switched off my contractions stopped completely (even though I was fully dialated). Being told I was going to have syntocin was my personnal worst nightmare but it was no where near as bad as I thought and I have absolutly no regrets at being induced. Good luck!!!

i had a successful induction with DD1 went in at 2.30pm on the Wed, got first lot of prostin gel at 5.30pm and got told i would be strapped to the ctg for 2 hours. CTG came off at 7.30pm (during visiting lol) and i had a load of cramp in my back and my bum ( i thought i needed the toilet) spent the whole night on and off the toilet (didnt do anything) the pain got worse and worse but was all in my back and bum. MW's ignored me all night told me nothing was happening and gave me a paracetamol.
MW came at 7 am next morning to give me more prostin gel, examined me and i was 5cm (YAY ME!!) took me to labour ward, randomly decided to break my waters, and then told me that my labour wasnt progressing and stuck the drip in ( i now think that this was not necessary as they didnt really give me a chance and i had only had a paracetamol all night, i think if i had got on the gas and air and moved about a bit it would have progressed) pain was never ending after the drip went in just peaked every 2 mins.

Got an epidural at 5pm that night and i was still only 7 cm the epidural didnt work but i could hardly move and we discovered that my DD was back to back which was why i wasnt having very good contractions.

Finally got to 10cm at 11.30pm then the doc wanted me to wait an hour for her head to come down a bit more, waited till 12.20 and could wait no longer as the urge to push was so strong, mw let me start pushing and my DD was born at 12.44am on the Friday morning no assistance and no tears or cuts, weighing 9lbs 2oz. So despite the long labour the actual delivery was brilliant and the easiest part of the whole time.

I hope ur induction goes well and i havent told u too many bad things xxxx Good luck xxx
