i have been induced already before but i had been in slow labour for 2 days already but it wasnt progressing properly. so i dont know what its like to be induced when nothing is happening in the first place. seems like most women end up the drip in their arm i bet thats what happens to me lol x

Hello ... I was booked in for 3rd March at 39+5 due to SPD and large baby, BUT bp had to monitored all week as suddenly shot up last monday, and today at its highest so far so now being induced TOMORROW! Im petrified and feel strangely calm at the same time! No idea what is to come! My friend was induced yesterday at 12 days overdue. Had first pessary at 11am, was over 5cm by 4pm and little one born at 7:20pm (first baby), all just with gas and air - Im hoping for that!!

Good luck everyone x

i think that no matter whether u get the drip or not the thing to always try and remember (easier said than done at the time but try) is to stay calm...the intensity when u get the drip can make u panic a lot which i think makes it sooooo much worse so lots and lots of deep breathing and positive thoughts.

I really hope all ur inductions go well xxxxxx

Hi
i was induced with 4 of my 5 children, the 5th decided to arrive on his own !! I really didn't find it that much different , just took a bit for it to get going but after that it all went pretty much the same , with my first i was induced and a few hours later my waters broke on thier own, then i had mild contractions for a bit then went into proper labour. all in all it took about 9 hours so not to bad for a first and that wasn't 9 hours of strong labour so don#t worry, it will all be worth it in the end . Best wishes

I was induced with my last three..with my youngest..I went in at lunchtime and had the first pessary at 2 pm..after 40 mins on the monitor I was sent off for a walk..came back and had second pessary at 8pm...then started having irregular contractions about 10 pm..these arent real labour contractions but prostin contractions caused by the pessary..but they are good as they gradually turn into the real thing (hopefully!)..I had a few hours sleep and woke at about 6 am ish with an almighty contraction and thought..that was the real thing!, sat up in bed and my waters went whoosh everywhere..MW did an internal at 6.30 and said I wasnt in labour..no dilation and popped me on the monitor..7 am..I was experiencing back to back contractions and the girl in the next bed buzzed the midwife..she popped her head round the curtain..looked alarmed and was back 2 secs later with another MW, grabbed my bed and ran with it down to delivery!..at 7.30 am I wanted to push but they wouldnt let me as DH hadnt arrived..at 8 am I couldnt stand it anymore and started pushing..DH burst into the delivery room at 8.10 and DD was born at 8.30 am!...because they didnt know when I went into established labour, they charted my labour as 1.5 hours..the two inductions before that were around 3 hours..so my experience of induction is that once it kicks in..it can b e quick!...Im being induced again this time and DH said hes staying in the car park!

I was induced with both my kids. I was given pitocin both times (i think thats the drip? not sure). My first labor was 6 hours. the first 3 hours I had no pain meds and it was pretty bad my contractions were a min long a min apart. I then begged for an epidural. Second labor was 3 hours and they gave me the epidural before the pitocin so it was honestly almost a pain free birth.

It seems in north america epidurals are much more common. Gas and air isn't really used. Its either an epidural or nothing.
