physio at this hospital not allowed to treat SPD??

I went to see my GP this morning (on the advise of my MW) to ask for some painkillers for my SPD and for a refferal to physio.
Well, the DR tried to tell me that the pain is nothing to do with being pregnant but is because im over weight (even though ive been told by my MW since my 16 week apt that its SPD)
Anyway he gave me a prescription for some painkillers and he wrote me a refferal card to go for physio.
So I thought, at least I would be able to see the physio therapist and explain the pain to them and they could treat me accordingly. I rang the physio department at the hospital but when I said I was pregnant she asked me if SPD had been mentioned so I said it had by my MW but not by the GP.
So she asked me to read what had been wrote on the refferal card so I did....."(1)CHRONIC LOW BACK PAIN AND HIPS PAIN.(2)PREGNANT"
She then said she would make me an appointment at the risk of her getting a slap on the wrist beause they arent allowed to treat SPD.
I know Ive read quite a few times about women on here going to physio for SPD so I cant help wondering why the hospital here isnt allowed to treat it
I was just wondering if anyone else has had any similar problems?

im wondering if he maybe said it was due to weight and not pregnancy related so he could give you that appointment? if they dont deal with spd then if he had put preg related spd then you prob would have been told they couldnt give you an appointment? if that makes sense lol.
xxx

That is frustrating you couldn't get an appointment. My midwife referred me to a physiotherapist when I was 23 weeks for SPD - although the physiotherapist didn't so much treat it - she did go through with me how to manage it with posture etc.

xx

i didnt have it last pregnancy but looks like i do this pregnancy, I think its due to getting pregnant 2 months after birth and also the fact that i am carrying 3 stone extra, I believe my added weight is causing it to be more painful but also think that the spd is there form birth

I think my weight is not helping at all

she did make me an appointment. she said she would make one at the risk of her getting a slap on the hand. she said she could maybe get away with it seeing as the dr didnt specifically write spd on the refferal. im not sure if going will be a waste of time though if they cant treat me. Ive been thinking about it though and maybe she meant treat me as in physically touch me to try to help? im sure seeing as i will already be there they will be able to recommend some things to make it easier for me...i hope so anyway x

my dr just seems to blame everything on weight though. i went to see him a before i was pregnant because i had been messing about with my son and slipped on the laminate flooring and hurt my ankle, it was swollen and almost impossible to walk on. he gave me a tubi grip and told me it was due to carrying extra weight, 3 days later it was still no better so i went to A&E, had an x ray and it turned out to be a frature. i really have no confidence in him at all but there are no other doctors close by x

There has to be a Physio who specialises in Pelvic Girdle Pain. I've spoken to some of the Physio's who I work with who wouldn't touch me because I was pregnant and because they weren't experienced enough. That may be the reason rather than them just saying no. If a Physio did treat you and they didn't know what they were doing, they could do you more harm than good. It could get them struck off their professional register.

What a load of rubbish, before I got pregnant I lost a load of weight but with baby (ok and stuffing my face a bit) im back to the same weight as I was originaly now, doesnt bother me ill worry about that after hes here but my point is if I have it now why didnt I have it before when I was this weight?

Sounds like your Dr doesnt have a clue about why spd occures and the fact that my friend who is like 8 stone if that had it as well and spent the last 3 months of her pregnancy on crutches and whelchaires with it proves it have nothing to do with weight.

Aslo why on earth wouldnt a hospital be allowed to treat spd is ridiculous,l its a medical condition after all no different ethicaly (in the treatment it needs) then a slipped disk.
