Dry skin that I can't seem to fix... it hurts!

I always end up with dry itchy burning skin during pregnancy and have never found a solution. I know it's not a rash or anything because my skin doesn't look any different from normal. It feels raw though and burns and itches and nothing I do helps. I've got a high powered humidifier running constantly which hasn't done any good. I've also tried all sorts of lotions and all they do is make the skin BURN like fire and it actually feels worse. Even the lotion meant for babies with sensitive skin feels like fire.

Sooo.... question is does anyone have any idea on ways to soothe my skin so I can get a break from this? Last night I got so desperate that I slathered breastmilk on the worst spots. Helped for about a minute and then went right back to where it was. Unfortunately my milk isn't running very much yet so there's not enough to really help much. Any ideas are welcome.. I'll try anything at this point. I also plan to mention it to my doctor Friday but I know I'll get the same "it's normal" crap that I always get and he'll tell me to try all the stuff I've already tried.

I've never heard of it... what's in it? I'm in the US so everything here seems to have a different name.

I did try aloe gel a few weeks ago.. didn't seem to make any difference. It at least didn't burn like the fires of hell but it didn't stop the itchy feeling either. I did just remember something I used last pregnancy that I hadn't tried this time yet and am going to get some tonight when my DH gets home with the car... i *think* I remember the aveeno oatmeal bath stuff did a little good last time around. I'm hoping I can find it around here somewhere. I live way out in the country and if one of the little stores in town doesn't carry it I'll have to drive an hour to find it. Also going to pick up anything anyone lists here to try too because i can't take it anymore. I was up last night for an hour sobbing because it was keeping me awake and hurt so much.

Hi there -

I know how you feel - my skin gets itchy at night and is always dry. It's also acting funny - for instance I scratched too hard on my left thigh almost 3 weeks ago and the scratches are still there. It's like it can't heal. I also have stopped shaving my legs (can't bend over in the shower with my circus freak giant belly) and in a week + 1/2 all I've gotten is a little stubble. I usually would have full growth on my lower legs after a week. It is so strange - I attribute it to bloating but really am not sure why.

Anyway - I'm doing a double hydrate in the shower AND using lotion on the especially itchy parts. Here's my routine - it helps a little.

-Soap up & rinse to clean with glycerin soap (this does not help with dry skin)
-Use an AMPLE amount of Eucerin Calming Body Wash Daily Shower Oil (like, I go through a bottle a week -- I pour it everywhere and rub it in instead of using a loofah). It's a gold bottle at the pharmacy: http://www.eucerinus.com/products/hb_calmingwash.html
-After rinsing that off I use Oil of Olay Ultra Moisture In-Shower Body Lotion with Shea Butter (I use this liberally too but a little goes a long way), and then rinse. This one is a little harder to find - Target does not carry it and neither does Walgreens but the Rite Aid nearby does. Not sure if you have Rite Aid near you. http://www.olay.com/boutique/olaybod...roducts/os1016

After drying off I use Eucerin Plus Smoothing Essentials on my lower legs and my upper arms - where I'm itchy the most.

Eucerin also has some products specifically for itch...

Good luck!

Aveno oatmeal stuff is pretty nice. I'm also wondering if it's more of an 'allergic reaction' type itch. Have you tried taking a Benadryl to see if the antihistamine stops the itch signal to your brain? I've taken that a few times this pregnancy for runny noses.
