epidural with spina bifida

Well I finely had my anethatist appointment today, cut a long story short basicly I have spina bifida and I wanted to know what the dangers of having an epidural was.
I never wanted one if I can realy help it but id rather know now rather then risk it come the time and end up paralysed.

After having all the mri scans done it turns out I cant have any form of spinal anasthetic done because the tethering in my spine goes too low so if it came to a C section id have to be put out completly, not too thrilled about that as I have a phobia about being put out (I came around half way through an operation as a child so it just freaks me out now) but oh well what ever has to be done for a safe delivery ill put up with.

However I can have an epidural as long as its done in the right spot (higher then normal) but I have been warned that with the problems I have with my spine the epidural will be patchy ie it wont work fully and ill still feel a lot of it and the effect will be unpredictable so I dont realy see the point in it what with the risks as well.
So it looks like its gas n air and alot of swearing for me
