Birthing Plan

I'm 27 weeks as of tomorrow and just wondering when I have that sit down with the midwife to discuss my birthing plan and pain relief options.
Does that even happen now or do you just basically wait until you're in labour and play it by ear??

Kind of worried that nothing has been spoken about as of yet. What do I do?
I'll be seeing her at 29 weeks, so maybe I could talk to her then?? I'm not sure.

Your midwife will discuss it with you. I think around 30 weeks is when they do it. They go through everything thoroughly and discuss all your otions. You write it up as u have to take it with you when u go to the hospital when ure in labour. X

hi hun, in the front of my maternity notes there are two stickers, one with the names of the midwives and one with a list of antenatal appointments, in brackets next to 36 weeks it says birth plan so i guess thats when we will be doing mine. im sure i did it earlier when i had my son but i guess every area might be different xx

My midwife brought it up at my 28 week appointment. Just casually asked if I had a plan but I said I was up for seeing how things went on the day. I'm delivering at a midwife led unit so there are only two options for me for pain relief - gas and air and pethedine.

If she doesn't mention it just bring it up at your next appointment xx

i never wrote a birth plan but the consultant wrote me a prescription 4 diamorphine b4 the birth as midwife cant give u that without a prescription like they can do with pethadine. i ended up having diamorphine and gas and air - epidurals were not an option as it is a small hospital.

Ahh thanks ladies, you've been a great help! I'll be seeing the midwife in 2 weeks so I'll bring it up then. To be honest, I'm not 100% sure what I'm wanting. I feel deep down I want to do it naturally, but then I'm thinking about what if I really start struggling and end up going hysterical like that woman on "One Born Every Minute" lol!

Thanks ladies xxx

I'm 36 weeks and birth plan hasnt been mentioned once! Supposed to be seeing midwife again at 38 weeks but have consultant appointment the day before so midwife wont need to see me.. I have no idea! Going to write a short plan this week - nothing over the top as what will be will be but things like 'My father to cut the umbilical cord' (My dad's my birth partner!) 'Vit K to be given' 'Section as last last last resort' 'Immediate skin to skin and BF' etc... May not happen my way but hey ho, we'll see!

xx

I brought it up with the stand in MW I had today because mine is on holiday. She put my mind at ease about things like waiting for the cord to stop pulsating, natural third stage, tearing naturally and ect by saying it should not be an issue and agreed it would be a good idea to bring a written list in at my next appointment to talk through it in more detail. I have heard that some people got told that few MW's will even read it but am hoping that is the minority. I would write down your ideas and take it in for your next appointment and bring it up.
