Law is my thing and unfortunately, I can't sue unless I have damages - proving damages to an unborn child is very very hard and will rely entirely on credable medical research and experts' opinion. No one can tell even after the baby is born whether his IQ would have been higher had I have been treated earlier or had he not had spinal bifida.
I think the spinal bifida will get the blame - but then they are not entirely blameless for that either.
I will wait and see what happens. Sometimes the stress just isnt worth it. He is gonna need me and I really don't know how much energy I will have to fight these things.
Whether you sue or not, you should definately put in a formal complaint - Regarless of the consequences, that fact the you were not informed of your thyroid problem asap shows serious incompetence and is very wrong.
So sorry to hear that your baby has spina bifida and may be unwell because of your untreated thyroid problem... You and bubs are in my thoughts, hun

Fucking useless doctor! You should get a different one, that's quite something to 'miss'! I'm so sorry you had to go through that! I can't even imagine how enraged you must be!! Keep us posted

Well I went to the doc last Wednesday to tell him that I had had a lump in my throat since i got pregnant and he told me to go away and come back when it got worse. I pleaded with him and said it was worse and I was choking on it at night! He still told me to come back when it got worse!
I immediately booked an appt to see another one and that was today. Straight away he said - looks like your thyroid - and i reminded him he did some thyroid tests in jan. He looked at the results and there it was! Hypothyroidism! I have had it all the way through my pregnancy and no one bothered to check the results!
Without treatment, hypothyroidism causes underdeveloped brains in babys, increased chance of miscarriage and a whole list of nasty nasty things!
Since my last scan showed my baby had spinal bifida and a severely undersized head - i am now totally convinced he has an underdeveloped brain!
I am devestated - i wont know anything until thursday. Why me????
OMG! Such incompetence from your doctor. A thyroid condition either under or over active is not a good thing and can certainly interfere with baby's development.
I am underactive and it is very important that thyroid medication be taken daily and levels are checked often.
I am so sorry to hear about all of this. This is sickening the care that you have had!
