Went for Growth Scan and She's Breech :( Need Advice about ECV? anyone had one?

Im really confused and scared.
Im full term and waiting to speak to the constulant etc tomorrow but just I dont know what to do.
Says that there is a 30percent chance she'll turn if i have a ECV.
But my worse fear was to have a c-section
Im so confused and not prepared for this

I can only tell you what I know, hannah, and that is that the ECV as you have identified, has low effectiveness and is also quite painful. I would chat to chaos about this as I know she has looked into this, having had what she thought was a breech baby up til last week.

The consultant will of course have more of the answers, but may try to sway you one way or the other. I am not going to tell you what I would do because I don't want to sway your decision, but big xx

Sorry hun, no experience. I know someone had one recently but I can't remember who! Try asking in the baby club.....

I know that they can be very painful.... but my sister was transverse until 39 weeks and she turned on her own in the end and mum said that was bloody painful too! It's worth trying if you really don't want a c-section.

What I'd also say is to try and push the consultant to rescan you in 1-2 weeks if you really don't want ECV or c-s. They could turn at the very last minute.

They will do another scan right before the c-section and let you go naturally if the baby turned. Sorry hun you have to go through this xx

a friend had that and she said it was very very painful but in the end it was worth it and she had her little boy naturally but like you said it has a low success rate

I have a breach baby as well hun. I have turned down the ecv as my baby is on the large side and my consultant prefers not to do them. I have heard they are very painful. However so is giving birth and c sections. There about a 30% sucsess rate. Im having a c section at 39 weeks. They do scan before you go down just incase

hi hun
my son was breech so i had him turned just after 38 weeks. yes it was painful but only lasted a few minutes and he did turn. It wasnt the greatest experience ever but i had decided that i would also have this baby turned if need be (head down at the mo so fingers x'd) as like you i really do want to avoid c-section.
In brief what they did was place a hormone patch on my stomach to relax the uterus (the patch gave me a bad headache) then after 30 mins the consultant comes in with scanning machine, does quick scan to make sure baby still breech then places hands either side of stomach and pushes up with one hand and down with the other. they will only try for few mins, then scan to see if baby has turned and if not book c-section. you are being monitored whilst having procedure and for an hour after.
Good luck hun, get in touch at aytime of you need to ask me anything
xx
