Postive GBS test

I got a letter in the mail yesterday saying that my Group B came back positive. Its such a mystery cause I wana know what causes it! Anyway, it kinda freaked me out cause I know it can cause a serious infection in the baby if I dont get the antibiotics in my system in time. I have an appt on Tuesday so I am going to ask for more info then, but it totally caught me off guard cause I wouldnt have thought I had it!

does anyone else have it?

Hello
i also have GBS and i am 28 weeks pregnant. Its a natural bacteria that is found naturally in your body anybody can have it and there are no syptoms. there is a 1 in 1000 chance of you passing it onto your child so as a precaution they put you on an intravenous drip as soon as your waters break or you go into labour so im afraid you will be hospital for the duration of your labour instead of sitting it out at home for as long as possible. i found this website really healpful. it tells you all you need to know about GBS www.gbss.org.uk. try not to get too worked up about it remeber there is only a 1 in 1000 chance of the worst senario happening.
hope everything goes well and good luck

you will just get antibiotics during labour as a precaution and you and the boy should be just fine. don't worry about it too much.

No worries hun~ the hospital will just give you antibiotics right when you come in.... and at least now you get to go in at the first sign of labor

Its just a natural bacteria that some people have in their vaginas and only very slim chance of problems arising but better to be safe with it.
Dont worry im sure all will be fine for you and bubs

Hi Hun, I have GBS also.

The below was provided by the GBS support group. I've found them very helpful.

Carrying GBS is perfectly natural and normal - GBS are just one of a number of bacteria which normally live in our bodies without causing symptoms and most babies are not affected by them (in the UK, approximately 230,000 babies are born each year to women who carry GBS and, of these, only 700 develop GBS infection. Roughly 9 out of 10 of these infections develop in the baby's first 2 days of life - after a month, GBS infections are rare and after 3 months they are virtually unheard of). And knowing you carry GBS before your baby is born is great news, because you can make your baby's chance of being affected by GBS even smaller. Carrying GBS is very common but GBS infections in babies are not - it's important not to get too worried about what is a rare complication.

Try not to let it worry you. I know it's easier said than done, but at least we know now and can be prepared
