Elective c-section Questions!!

Well i have a c-section booked for 24th april excited to see my little princess and to hold her to KNOW she is safe cos god knows whats happening in my body at this point but anyways i just wanted to ask a few questions for those that had an ELECTIVE c-section. I have had a emergency one and heard they are totally different.

Is the recovery time alot different?

Does it hurt as much as a emergency?

Is there anything i should take to prepare myself & to help?

Basically is it alot different to emergency and are able to be just that more mobile then with emergency?

Im just gearing myself up as im really excited yet scared so want to know what to expect! Thanks for any answers

I have had 1::emergency section and then had 2 elective sections and having another elective on May 2nd. Emergency section happened after 2 days of induction. Found recovery easier with electives, I was up and 'mobile' the next day. Think because my body had not gone through 2 days of on off labour, I was better able to cope. Still painful at times but found it best to take regular analgesia rather than wait for pain to get too bad. It was a strange feeling walking down to theatre knowing I would have my baby in an hour.

I went through the same as coccyx with my first and then had an elective C-section with my second. My experience with my second was the same as coccyx and I agree 100% with her post in terms of walking around with my baby the next day. Didn't happen like that with my first.

Also agree, ensure that you harp on the nurses about pain relief. If they say you need to take painkillers every four hours, ensure that you do. Don't be afraid to bother the nurses either as often they can forget.

Wishing you much luck for the 24th!

My sister had elective c-section and she recovered quite fast. You just have to take it easy, but most moms do so anyways after birth. She had a very neatly done cut too. Today it is just a thin white line that is barely noticable. She was a bit groggy after the surgery but that is too be expected. Good luck on the 24th!

First just wanna say congrats on getting a date! So exciting knowing when it will happen!

I've only had an elective section, since my doctor told me she would be too big for me to deliver. I was really against it at first, but honestly, it wasn't hard at all. I was able to be completely prepared for everything. Our family was able to be there. One thing I was really scared about was the spinal block, but I really didn't even feel it. I would imagine it would be much easier, since you can have such a calmer feeling about all of it. Just make sure to have your support team with you. I was a little groggy after the surgery, but that went away. I was getting up and moving around 2ish the same day of my surgery which happened at 8am. Not doing too much but walking a little in the hallway.

I think you will have a much better time this time, try not to worry about it, and just enjoy the last couple weeks being pregnant. =)

I had an elective with Charlie due to SPD, and found it fine. TBH, it was a relief to not have the SPD pain, so I coped with the section afterpain well. Charlie was born at 10.26am on the Thursday, I had the catheta removed at 7am on the Friday and then was able to go for a shower and walk around. I was allowed home at 2pm on the Saturday.

Good luck hunnie!
