Good antenatal appointment, GTT results :)

Just had to share really!

Just had my 28 week appointment, my GTT results have come back normal, my blood pressure was perfect, bloods are normal, urine is normal and I got to feel baby's bum and arms! Took a while to find the heartbeat (because I had cream on my tummy ) but was lovely and strong when she got it - 166-170bpm.

My hospital had considered me high risk because of my high BMI but my community midwife has scrapped that out of my notes and said I'm perfectly healthy (I walked 2k to the surgery without stopping for a breath for goodness sake!). So if I can "cock my leg over the side of the birthing pool, then you can bloody get in it!" which makes me happy because I so wanted a water birth and I was scared they'd refuse.

So now eating a piece of homemade cake with a cuppa tea in celebration!

Wow that is great news hunny!!

I have a high BMI (I think it is the same as yours from memory of past threads) and have also had normal urine and blood pressure throughout. I am still waiting for my 28 week bloods results which my MW messed around with, refused to take at 28 week appt then ended up coming to my house on Monday this week to take them. I phoned for the results today and they are still not back because the midwife didn't hand them in on the day she took them! I wasn't given a GTT test, just a random sugar test (via veinous blood, which I am also still waiting for), but that should be fine as I monitor my blood sugar at home and it's always good. My MW hasn't even bothered to measure my fundal height yet, which I find completely ridiculous! So your MW sounds great!

What I am pleased to read is that you have been given the go-ahead for a water birth if you want one. This is something that has been causing me some anxiety as I'd heard you can't have one if overweight in case things go wrong and they need to get you out quickly; but then I found out the other day that my labour ward (the consultant led part of the maternity unit) has a birthing pool - the labour ward is for higher risk births!

I am so pleased to read everything went well for you. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

LankyDoodle, I think the profession is starting to realise that women's bodies giving birth is such a natural thing to do that they're starting to go back to the old ways of just letting us get on with it. Whereas previously it's been very - you're high risk, therefore you must lie down and birth that way, which is actually counter productive.

Your MW sounds a bit cruddy. But I always think with blood tests that no news is good news so fingers crossed for you! I hope you get the same go ahead with a water birth.
