Swollen ankles and feet

I have had this for a while but they seem to be getting worse. My hands aren't too bad but I have had to remove my rings cos they were getting a bit tight. would you be worried? I am at the midwife tomorrow so obviously my blood pressure will get checked.

I haven't been able to wear normal shoes since early December (and even then, not all day). Haven't worn socks in months. Anyway that would have put me around 24 - 25 weeks.

I've also had to remove my rings and I hate that. I had my hubby buy me a new wedding band for Xmas and after getting it sized up like 2 whole sizes, it still doesn't fit. Frustrating.

But to your point - yes - keep checking the BP (mine is fine). Also I heard if you start getting puffy around the eyes it could be a bad sign.

Good luck!

Thank you. I don't recall having any of this with my other 2 so it has had me worried. I have had a trace of protein in my urine for as long as I can remember on my antenatal visits but midwife said it was normal as my blood pressure so far has been ok.

I wouldn't worry about it, my feet and ankles have just started as well ( I did mention it to my midwife though )- I dread to think what they'll be like in 3 and a half weeks when I'm 39 weeks. The swelling is completely normal, you simply hold more fluid towards the end of pregnancy. Try to keep your legs up as much as possible, make sure you drink plenty of water and rest as much as you can.

Only start worrying if you get headaches and/or spots in front of your eyes as they'd be indications that your blood pressure is wrong. As long as you don't have these things you'll be just fine =) ... Hope your little one won't make you wait too much longer so you can fit your rings again soon.

yep its normal. My legs are completely swollen from the knee downwards, fingers too (also had to remove my rings ). My bp was raised a couple of weeks ago, but it turned out to be nothing and just a bad case of pg swelling! xx

I WOULD worry about it actually!! not majorly but definatly tell your midwife. I've had this the last 2 weeks, and although it is common for pregnant ladies to have this midwives like to know and keep a note of it incase it gets worse or you develop other symptoms. She will probably tell u it's normal, which is generally is, but she will note it all the same. x

Mine said that to me too. If they are still swollen in the morning then that's abit different. Mine are still swollen when i get up but not as much, so if they go down then that's a good thing, at the end of the day when you've been on your feet it's quite normal for the swelling to be worse xx

definately mention this to your midwife. You mentioned your blood pressure was fine so thats good If you experience symptoms such as headaches, upper quadrant pain or visual disturbances then definately see your midwife...could be signs of pre-eclampsia. You said there was a trace of protein in ur urine? protein in the urine is also a sign of pre-eclampsia, so make sure if you have any of these other symptoms..contact your midwife right away. Hope this helped
