How much movement?

Hi all

I'm new on these forums and am hoping someone will be able to give me a bit of advice or reassurance...

I'm 30 weeks pregnant and throughout my whole pregnancy I've not felt a greta deal of movement from my little one. Both my scans have been fine, not shown anything abnormal or anything to concern me or midwife, and at all my antenatal examinations midwife has said that baby appears to be the correct size for how many weeks I've been at the time, also heartbeat has been normal at every checking..

I'm worried however because although I feel some sort of movement from baby every day its not always big kicks, more like little fluttery feelings like when you first feel them move.. it has been like this the whole way through my pregnancy so far so its not like its suddenly changing and slowing down, and when I mention my concerns to my midwife she just said that some babies aren't as active as others and that how would I know what was a 'normal' amount of movement as this is my first baby! She was trying to put my mind at rest and wasn't being offish or anything with her comment but I am so worried..

Has anyone else had this? Is it normal or should I be concerned?

ANY info or advice would be great as am sat here stressing at the moment x

You are worried about how much you baby is moving so i would persue your midwife and ask for a more thorough check of your baby, ie ultrasound.

I don't mean to worry you but i know someone who lost her baby at 37 weeks and she just assumed that lack of movement was normal because her midwife was telling her that it just had less room to move.

Your baby may just have less room to move but its worth having your little one checked out properly even if its just piece of mind. Some babies don't move as much as others but not one pregnancy is the same as another.

I hope you can get this checked out and your mind is put at ease xxx

Honey i really wouldn't stress, your midwife is right everyone is totally different. depending on where the baby sits inside you, amount of amniotic fluid and what position etc. Also boys tend to be more active than girls. I get kicked every two minutes but my friend barely feels movement so you can't compare. I'm sure your lovely little baby is 100% healthy, just a little lazy. xx

hi and welcome i know at thirthy weeks i think you are meant to be feeling some kind of movement which you are i think they say 10 movements in a hour is normal but maybe your baby isn`t as active and he/she is starting to run out of room in there

Thanks for your replies everyone, I really do appreciate it... Am getting so worried though so I think I might give the midwife a call, I just don't want her to think I'm a neurotic 1st time mum to be, which maybe I am - I just don't know!!

I never knew pregnancy was going to be this stressful, I just want my little baby to be here safe and sound and maybe then I can stop worrying quite so much! x

I hope she can put your mind at rest.

I know i hadn't felt my little one move all evening (mine's very active) and i ended up in tears and just when i was getting most distressed she kicked me so hard... i deserved it!

I hope everything is ok hun, worrying is normal, i don't think we can help it, even once they're born!!

My Lo has quite days and as long as LO kicks 10 times on 12 hours it should be fine, thats what my midwife say. Wouldnt stress to much , my first wasnt really any active baby but this one has her moments when she wont stop!

Its different for every pregnancy, try not to stress to much Ring the midwife for peace of mind cos no matter what anyone will say its still going to niggle away at u !

You have all been so helpful and supportive - I really can't say how much that means to me, thankyou all very much!

Was just about to ring midwife, was sitting on the sofa looking for the number in my hospital notes and thought I'd down a glass of water quickly first.. then I got a few good movements where I could see my bump getting poked from inside, then she just went back to her usual fluttery movements and now has gone quiet again so I guess thats just whats normal for her!

Am going to try not to worry now, will keep an eye on how many movements I get throughout the day and if I'm still worried tomorrow I'll give midwife a ring then.. I'd really feel a bit daft calling her now because I'd not have anything to say that was abnormal really!

Seems that I probably am just an over worried (normal lol!) mum to be! x

Everyone is different with regards to movement. Some of us are also not as sensitive to the movements as others. As long as your baby is healthy that is all that matters. Dont stress. It's not good for your baby. Perhaps your little one is just a peacefull little angel that does not want to disturb his/her mommy!
