Dec was breech, I had a scan at 38+5 and he was still breech so I was automatically booked for a c-section. They said there was to many risked involved in a breech birth funny the doc that delivered Dec was a specialist in breech births but because my consultant said no then she had to do a section.

Im breech as well but was told there was no way they'd let me go into labour naturally because my first labour was so quick and if its just as fast then it could be quite dangerous. I was also told that very few midwives will agree to assist with a vaginal breech birth although im not sure if thats just the midwives round here!

seems to be a few late breeches at the mo

Yes it definitely contributed to her hip BUT I believe it was how the doctor helped her out rather than because she was breech inside me. The way her legs were guided out wasn't nice to see according to my OH but afterwards she had the biggest bruise on her left bum and hip. It was a fresh bruise so was definitely from coming out but as a 1st time mum at the time I never questioned it. Wish I had really as her hip would have been dealt with quicker. A friend of mine had an undiagnosed breech birth too and she had a boy and his hips were completely fine as apparently dislocated hips are far more common in girls than boys. It's not the best way to have a baby but I have heard of Doctors willing to let you give birth naturally as long as baby is in a good enough position and not, say 1 foot engaged and the other somewhere else lol! x

All babys who present breech after 34 weeks regardless of method of delivery have a higher incidence of Hip Displasia which is why at my unit they are all referred for Hip Scans whether they are vaginal breeches or Sections. It is the positioning of being breech for a certain time in the womb that increases the incidence of this and not something that is thought to happen just from one incidence at delivery such as how the doctor delivered the baby. It is most likely that your baby would have had the hip problem even if you had a section. This question has come up in Hip Clinic and the specialist often recited this answer.
