Doing The Deed To Bring On Labour!...

Hi ladies,

Sounds like a silly Q but in order for sex to be effective in bringing on labour do both me and my OH need to orgasm? I dont like how my uterus feels after I have one and so was wandering if OH's was enough seen as its his sperm that softens the cervix...

Sorry for the embarassing Q ladies, just wandering...

It's better if you both get an orgasm, but the sperm is of course better than nothing You could just do some nipple stimulation instead to release the same hormone orgasm does

Its a weak prostaglandin in the semen, not the sperm, that acts in the same way as the pessaries they use to induce you in the hospital, an orgasm will help to make your uterus contract, but only if your cervix is ready and already thinned, otherwise we would all be labouring all the time after an orgasm, it makes you have braxton hicks, but wont really make you labour unless your body is doing its own part anyway, the reason women bleed after sex in preg is because the cervix is so sensitive when pregnant the motion of sex and pressure will sometimes make you bleed. I have been on a total sex ban through this preg as i have a stitch intact and sometimes i have had orgasms in my sleep and worried and worried it will affect my stitch and my internal scans have never shown them to make any difference at all from the inside or outside,i has never done anything, but the prostaglandin effect of semen is a lot more effective. xx

It's the semen. An orgasm will make you contract, but won't really bring on labor.
