protein in urine

Just back from hospital appointment to schedule c section. They found large amount of protein in urine. No other signs of pre eclampsia, but have asked me to do 24 hour urine collection. Rather stupidly did not ask what this would detect/ reasoning behind it. Any ideas ladies? Have given me antibiotics in case of urine infection.

Protein in your urine can also be a symptom of a liver problem I believe. You said there were no other signs of preeclampsia? Not even high BP?

Good luck with the results of the 24 hour collection. I hope everything is alright!

For a 24 hour collection they just want to see the overall concentration of protien in your urine for an entire day.

I had an excessive amount of protien that the doc said could have been due to my having a bit of the stomach flu.

When I did have PE 12 years ago, doc had me do a 24 hour collection, then a 2 or 3 day collection as well to find out what was going on prior to diagnosing me and treating me.

www.blueribbonbaby.org has a great diet on there for PE women. If I don't follow this diet, I start to feel a little goofy. Very high protien diet. You might give it a try over the next week or so to see if you notice any difference.

I had +2 today. They sent it off for analysis. Probably another urine infection.

I have been having the same problem for 2 weeks now. I was rushed to hospital as I had +2 protein and swelling along with headaches. After having 3 blood tests and litres of urine tests preeclampsia came back clear which is good. However as it has only just came on the last week or so it could just be a symptom of the UTI I have or the medication I am on for them.
Try not to worry too much, doctors are very cautious with the diagnosis of preeclampsia and can be too hasty (not complaining) x

+2 means two traces/samples of protein in urine which usually means UTI.
