VBAC and monitoring??

Hi girls hope you and bumps are all well.

Well this is my 3rd baby i am trying for a VBAC - first delivery was induced but normal, 2nd was induced but ended in EMCS.

So they think that this time around i should be ok having a VBAC as i have had one normal delivery and that my csection last time was due to my daughters positioning in the pelvis ( she was very stuck )

I know that they do minimal induction when you have had a previous section and i have to admit i am worried about this because i dont think that i will go into labour by myself lol but i understand why they dont artificially enhance your labour.

What i am wondering now is do they have to continually monitor you when it is a VBAC i.e. do you have to be constantly attatched to the CTG or clip on the baby head?

THis time around i am planning on letting myself going as overdue as possible...does anyone know what this is with a previous section?? I am just so worried about getting another section any help would be great ladies

xxx

Hi, its your informed choice if you dont want to have continous CTG monitoring...are you planning on having an active birth? or an epidural?

Having monitoring should mean that when baby is distressed that they will act upon it but its the Drs/ midwife 'safety net' at the end of the day.

You should really talk to a midwife that you have confidence in that will be able to explain to you your options when it comes to VBACs.....Of course you will see a Dr about it but they will usually scare you with the risks.

Good luck!

ideally i would like to have an active birth as i was continuosly monitored with DD1 and was in labour for such a long time and i feel that had a lot to do with being stuck on a bed.

Obviously i want what is best for my baby i just dont feel that anyone has spoken to me about it in great length...they just say oh you will be fine for a VBAC and thats it when i ask questions.

I have midwie again on Thurs so think i will be saying that i need to have a chat about it xxx

I have had 4 VBAC's and the last one I decided not to be monitored continuously as I agree with you and think it prolongs everything when you are stuck on a bed. It was also an induction and I agreed to let them monitor baby as often as they wanted with the handheld doppler and I did go on the monitor in the beginning just to make sure all was progressing as it should but that was only about half hour or so. You don't have to be on the CTG but they might make you feel bad about it - don't. Good luck x

Hey thanks that is good to know...do you mind if i asked how you were induced...i.e. what did they give you and were you already pregressing by yourself? I know every hospitals policy is different just trying to be armed with as much info as possible xx

My waters had already gone 3 days previous but the waters around the baby's head hadn't so they broke those and put me on the drip to bring on the contractions. The induction before that I had a pessary to start me off and I so wish I had stayed off the monitor that time too as I ended up having an epi at 4cm because I couldn't move around to ease the pain. I know with the drip you are still sort of contained but I went for a cig and everything ( I know, I know that's bad but hey ho...I gave up this time lol)

its good to know that they will do something to help though instead of just whisking you straight off for a setction. I am hoping as its my 3rd that my body will start to do something by itself. Thanks for the info xxx
