Sorry hun, I've only just seen this. I had an elective c section at 39 weeks with Charlie because of SPD.

I opted for this because by about 32 weeks, I couldn't open my legs properly.

I know you said you don't want a section, but it surprised me how quick my recovery was. I seemed to recover quicker than other women I knew that had had sections because I think I was in that much pain for the months before the birth, that it was a blessed relief to have that pain go away!! I hadn't even realised that I was no longer in pain from the SPD until about 30 hours after the birth when Kayleigh saw me walking down the ward, and was shocked to see me without crutches. I hadn't even realised that I wasn't using them!!!!!!!

Just another thing, before I opted for the section, I spoke to an aneasthesiologist (sp?) and asked her about an epidural as the mw had told me that I couldn't have one. She said that as long as I did measurements before labour on how far I could open my legs, and made sure that all the mw's and doctors knew this, then an epidural or even spinal block was preferred. And they wouldn't even let the aneasthetic wear off towards the end, they would ensure I was pain free through-out. Just to be sure that I never had my legs open wider than the measurements or I could do myself permament damage.

Sorry I missed you before your appointment, but remember, nothings written in stone. Even if the mw tells you something today that you agree to, you can change your mind at any time.

Good luck hun, and if you need to ask me anything, fire away.

Thanks for the info

I just got back anyway, I didnt ask her about it because I didn't have the bottle (how strange is that? lol). Ive got no idea why I was scared, but I just was so I decided not to say anything. She referred me to a physio anyway, and said that he might want to discuss birthing options with me. Whatever that means. So hopefully we'll be able to get something sorted that suits me better than a section or being induced. Those are the two things Im terrified of. Hopefully the physio will give me tips on how to cope better as well maybe.

Also, Junior has moved slightly, so she says if he puts his head down in the next few days it might make the pain ease off.

I was the same Linzi, get bottling it as well! I felt that I was being a wimp asking for help with something that should come natural to all women. And after all, I'd done it all before (without SPD first time). But when I finally broke down in tears to the mw and told her that I was scared stiff of giving birth because of the pain, she referred me to a consultant, and he took one look at me trying to get onto the bed for an examination, and went and got his diaryto book me in.

There's nothing wrong with booking another appointment to see your mw before your next scheduled one if you change your mind though.

Good luck at the physio.

Hiya. Sorry to hear your suffering with SPD

I've had it with all pregnancies. The first pregnancy, I was induced on my due date, as I couldn't take the pain any longer.

Second time, I had it worse. My waters trickled at 39 weeks, but then nothing happened, so they left me 48 hours, and then induced me. I'd been on crutches and had to use mobility scooters in ASDA ( was quite fun!!). Towards the end of the labour, my temp went through the roof, and Ethans heartrate was dodgy, so they put me in stirrups, and ventoused him out. MW's are under strict instructions NOT to use stirrups with SPD, as if you've had epidural ( which I had ), then you can't feel the overstretch. I know they had to, and Ethans safety was the most important thing, but when my epidural wore off, I was in Absolute Agony. My pelvis had split, and it took 3 months of intensive physio therapy to re align everything, and even then, I have suffered with groin pain ever since.

I have had obvious symptoms since 8 weeks this time, and have already been to the same physio. I now have to wear a belt when I'm walking. I go to a Consultant appointment on the 29th April, to discuss birth options, and I'm definitely going to request C-Section this time !! Without a doubt.

I had it particulary badly, so I'm not saying it will be the same for everyone. My first birth was fine, and again, they had to put me in stirrups to do Forceps. I healed pretty quick that time. It seems to get progressively worse.

I hope you get all the info you need to make the right decision for you. Just ignore if anyone doesn't agree with what you decide. This is your pregnancy, and your birth. It should be up to you to decide how to experience it and make an informed decision.

lol! My OH was joking the other day Id have to get around in one of those scooters. I dont trust him to do the food shopping on his own! God knows what we'd end up with lol.

I was going to reply to this last week but Ive had an odd weekend so I havent been able to get online.

The reason I bottled it was because I imagined my MW being like 'Oh yes, c section, how are you fixed for May 25th?' or something like that and Id rather not know when he's going to be born! I know in my head that it wouldn't work like that but it's really scary to know the exact day and be counting down to it. Id hate that. So I figured that if I didn't ask her Id never get a date, so I wouldn't have to have one! From what Ive read (yep, Ive been googling ) it might be the best thing for me to have that anyway so... I dont know. Its just a scary thought. But at the same time I dont want to do myself any worse damage.

Im not convinced its SPD anyway because I managed to go around the shops for a couple of hours on Saturday and I wasnt in much pain then. I assumed it would get worse, not better. I woke up a few times last night with the pain when I was turning over but really apart from that Ive been fine. I think Ive been diagnosed wrong.
