I haven't had an internal as I'm not to that point yet, but I plan on not getting one until I'm in labor (we'll see how I feel at 37 weeks!). I love my dr. he always takes the time to answer mine or DH questions or concerns.

I didn't answer all your questions
I'm in the US
My appointment usually lasts less than 10 mins.

consisting of:
weigh in
BP
heart beat
measuring
how are you feeling?

My MW is ok. She does her job which is the main thing, but shes not very personable. I feel like if I had a problem I couldn't just ring her and ask.

She doesn't really explain stuff unless I ask. although last time she showed me and OH how to feel Juniors head and we didn't ask for that, which was quite nice

My appointment is usually just blood taken (to check iron levels coz mine are low), urine test thingy, measures fundal height, checks Juniors movements and heartbeat and thats about it! Ive never been weighed or anything like that.

I usually get a 15 min appointment and thats usually after a 45 minute wait. Thats the NHS for you! (Im in the UK).

Aqua: I don't think I know ANYONE who owns one of them. Id be worried if I did.

xxx

Do you like her?:
I love my midwife. I have opted out of the medical loop, and she is not associated with any doctor. She is a stand alone midwife.

Quote:
Does she inform you or do you have to ask?
Oh my yes. In my initial appointment she spent an hour telling me all about herself, her practice, her philosophy and basically how things worked in her appointments. She also gave me a 1 inch thick packet of information that has just about everything you need to know.

Quote:
Do you get a lengthy appointment?
I spend at least an hour with her each and every appointment.

Quote:
What does your appoitnment usually consist of?
Urine anaysis,
blood analysis for iron and platlet counts. She only pricks my finger, so it doesnt hurt.
blood pressure
listen to baby's HB
measure the belly
She checks my reflexes
She has a huge list of questions she asks ranging from physical to mental to emotional health. She also spends time talking to my DH.
Takes my weight
Feels the position of the baby
Answers any questions

Starting tomorrow she is going to check my cervix.

OH, I also always get a big hug at the end of our appointment.

What country are you from?
I am in the US. Now I know for a fact the care I am getting is very outside the norm of the US system. I chose not to have a doctor, and had to seek out an alternative for my care. I know that very few women in the US use midwives, and even few doctors use them. My midwife has almost 35 years of experience, she has delivered almost 3000 babies, and has amazing stats. I trust her with my body and my baby. I truly feel like with her I am getting "care" not just medical attention. She cares about me, my baby, how my pregnancy goes, and most importantly how my birth goes. She gives me amazing support, and I could not be happier with my choice. I will never ever go back to an OB/GYN I can continue to see my midwife for my yearly paps, and female care.

Which one? I'm now on my THIRD different one. The first time they swapped I didn't mind as I was informed that would happen before. This time, they just changed randomly without telling me. Also, she had a student with her and didn't ask me. I wouldn't have said no, but it would've been nice to have been asked. Saything that, they're all pretty "nice."

Does she inform you or do you have to ask?

No, I'm never told anything. I don't even ask much anymore. Got fed up of one word answers and having to come on here to find out what was going on anyway!

Do you get a lengthy appointment?

5-10 minutes max. 30 if you include how long I have to wait.

What does your appointment usually consist of?

Urine analysis
Blood pressure
Babies HB
Fundal height
Babies position

What country are you from?

UK.

Do you like her?:

She's pretty nice. I'm a little apprehensive because she is an office with 2 male OB/GYN's. I had to meet both of them in case she is not available for the birth, which I really don't like. They were nice enough I guess, although I have made it a point through out my life to avoid male doctors after a few unpleasant experiences. This delivery will be in a regular hospital which makes me very apprehensive. I'm spoiled to my first birth experience with 3 wonderful midwives in a stand-alone birthing center right outside of Savannah, GA. They were very personable and it was like visiting family.

Does she inform you or do you have to ask?

Semi-informative. My last visit was the most informative since my initial visit so I hope as things progress, she will begin being more informative.

Do you get a lengthy appointment?

It depends. Some have only been 5-10 minutes with 30+ waiting. The last appointment was a little longer.

What does your appointment usually consist of?

Urine analysis
Blood pressure
Babies HB
Fundal height
Babies position
Weight- informed of how much I have gained
Any questions?

What country are you from?

US- Georgia

Also, after 28 weeks, I start going every 2 weeks, then during the last month, every week. I'm not sure when internals will start. Last time, I believe they started at 38 weeks. The evening after my 39th week internal exam, I began labor.

Hi Amy the midwives wont give you an internal unless your in labour to see how dilated you are, or to break your waters if your overdue.

oh ok, im not that comfortable gettin internals in a gp's practice any way
if i got one i would prefer it to be in the hospital environment, it seems more medical and needed then haha
