My pre-natal yoga teacher gave me an inversion to do last night and all it did was make him TRY to turn for about 6 hours during the night last night (straighten legs, stick bottom out of my left side, head-butt the ribs on my right side ): that was an uncomfortable night! Have a feeling that he may try again tonight...

I have rib and a little back discomfort every so often... not too bad really, but he is only a little chap...

The c-section part went very well and we got home just 48hrs after she was born.

QTPie...may I ask, what is an inversion? I'm only 30 weeks but starting to panic as bubs won't move from breech for a few weeks now. He did try two nights in a row (very uncomfy sleep just as you said!) and managed to turn into transverse a few times, but by morning is ways back in breech. He gave up and didn't even bother trying again last night. I am scared of a c-section, I really want to try a vag birth.

Ellie...congrats on little Anna May I ask how you felt after your c-section???

Luckdragon...good luck for 3 days time!!! Please keep us posted on your birth story and your little one

MissTanya- you were asking how the section went....

Sore afterwards- as to be expected no matter the birth.

As soon as she was born she was given to dad and he held her to me - I had no feeling at all and couldnt even move my hands to hold or touch her. That quickly passed and she was in my arms within 15mins- rest of body still numb for about 8hrs.

They had me up and out the bed and in a shower within 11hrs of having her - its the best thing to get up as soon as you get the feeling back in your legs - there were another couple girls in same ward as me who took a lot longer to get up and moving - they were still in hospital when I left too!!

It all went really well. I was never afraid or worried about the section - I was always just looking really forward to meeting our little baby.

We got home about 48hrs after the birth - felt fantastic.

Now am just a little stiff - taking things easy.

Feel on top of the world!!! Am loving every minute of being a mummy!

Hi MissTanya, inversions (in yoga) are where your hips are above you head (for instance, a headstand). These are not normally recommended during pregnancy at all, BUT can be recommended to try to turn a breech baby.

Common inversions (easier to do during pregnancy than a headstand) include "pelvic bridge" (if you know what that is - you can support your back and hips with cushions) OR (as my yoga teacher had me doing) "lying on the floor, with your legs straight running vertically up against a wall, and a BIG bolster cushion (or several normal cushions) under your lower back. So you are sort of in a right-angle, BUT your hips are raised above the level of your head. Does that make sense? The idea is to try this for 10-15 minutes (no more!) once or twice a day.

The idea is that your baby is tipped out of your pelvis (I can actually feel this happenining!), becomes disoriented and turns...

The downsides are that it made me feel a bit sick and headachey...

Other things that are supposed to help are crawling (on all fours) lots and swimming (I have been swimming, half a mile, twice a week since week 22 ). In both of those, your baby drops into the "hammock" of your abdomen and should have more freedon to turn (IF he wants to ).

I have been doing all the "right things" during pregnancy (swimming, pre-natal yoga, crawling etc) and baby still hasn't turned... I was also not a very suitable candidate for ECV (manual turning done by a doctor at the hospital after 37 weeks). If you are still breech at 36 weeks, they will offer you an ECV.

QT

Brilliant news ellie

Have also heard that "getting up and about" as soon as you can also aids a much better recovery

Do take it easy, though - especially with bending/lifting/carrying.

Hope that your recovery continues at a fantastic pace

Thanks Ellie!!
I'm glad to hear you had a positive experience. I guess that means you wouldn't hesitate to do it again a second time if you needed?! I was suprised you couldn't feel your arms though, as I thought it was only meant to be tummy down that gets numbed. I wish you a speedy recovery...though it sounds like you are already half way there

Thanks QTPie!!! I am doing antenatal yoga too. The Pelvic Bridge makes sense. I'd read about it as a way of helping to turn baby, but it never clicked that the purpose was to get baby to move out of the pelvis. Thanks...I shall certainly give it a try. The second night bubs was trying to turn (the night before last) I got out of bed at 3am and onto my all fours for 15mins, hoping that would help. But all it seemed to do was quieten bubs down, rather than help him move. Next time, I will try the pelvic bridge.

Sooooo....if my husband helped me, is it okay for me to try a handstand against a wall for 10 mins a day???
