Family Cars - what would you recommend

Hi, I'm going to be getting rid of my 3 door renault clio this month and will be getting something larger and more family friendly.

I quite like the following cars:
1. Citreon C4
2. Vauxhall Zafira
3. Ford Focus/Zetec

I dont want a 7 seater/people carrier but would like something with plenty of space in it and more power than my little clio!

What cars have you ladies got, what would you recommend and what would you steer clear of?

Lou

Would definately advise AGAINST a citreon C4....a close relative works for the AA and they breakdown a LOT.
Out of the three Id go for a Ford Focus but given the choice of any I would get a Fiat Punto.

The Ford would be your best bet, I've had the new Fiesta for a while and (touch wood) have not an issue with the ford.....However, I know you've said you don't want a people carrier, but I would stay away from Renault Scenic as every electrical thing in it has broken for me.......

i have always loved my little sproty cars but they have all been 3 doors and with bubs coming i knew i would have to get a 5 door, but most sporty cars look awful with 5 doors. after weeks of searching i found my dream 'family' car - a VW Golf R32 (5 door of course!) - it is gorgeous, so comfy, big boot, plenty of space in back, leather so easy to wipe clean, and looks / goes really well! xxx

We are considering the Nissan Note, i don't like big cars but this one tick all the boxes I guess.

Hi i had a tiny ford ka so i sort of gave it to my mum and dad who then replaced it for a Vauxhall Astra it's an 06 it has 5 doors plenty of room it is the sxi model so quite sporty it is a 1.6 so picks up great. I didn't want to get rid of my ka as i did not want a bigger car but when we brought the travel system it didn't fit in the boot. I don't find the astra to big and it's a fun little car to drive. Maybe it's worth taking your pram with you so you know if it will fit. Our travel system is quite bulky and it just goes in

as an ex driving instructor the Ford Focus is a good safe and reliable car and much more comfy than other models. We were very close to buying one but got a VW golf instead but now im regretting that as with it being a hatch we need bigger really and wish we had the golf estate as we need to put 2 carseats in the back and DH is so tall its hard to get one to fit behind his seat without it touching or having DS's legs on the back of the seat

Hi
Were swapping out OH car for a volvo xc60 its a 4x4 but not huge but certainly big enough and its won lots of safety awards. http://www.volvocars.com/intl/All-Ca...s/default.aspx

I had a ford focus and certain for 2 kids in car seats in the back is fine and the focus is very reliable although when swapped my car out last october when we though there was no chance of having a child i got a convertible (VW Eos) it is 4 seater and the back seats are ISO fix so i think it will be ok I am so in love with my car i dont want to give it up....

My ford focus was bought from car giant who have about 6000 cars at any one time and there usually all ex lease and very well maintained just high milage which with todays engines is not usually a problem.

Good luck
