Unhappy

worried

Hi,

I'm 27 weeks pregnant with first baby and at 23 weeks I had a scare with low amniotic fluid. I had the Ok from consultant on fluid level which at the time he measured it at 9.5 - don't know how good that is but he said it was in normal range and not to worry.

However I am still totally paranoid over the baby. I have a scan next Friday when I will be 28 weeks and am worried sick they are going to say the fluid is low or the baby isn't growing properly etc.

Unfortunately I also have an anterior high placenta which means I don't feel the baby kick very much which concerns me even more because I have read with low fluid levels then babies don't kick as much anyway but it could be kicking away just I'm not feeling it. My family keep telling me not to worry as if the consultant had been worried he would have had me in for another scan before now. I do feel baby kick at some point during the day but it is normally very high or vey low in my tummy. I'm just hoping all will be ok with my little baby.

I have a scan soon (don't know when as they haven't actually made the appointment yet) because my fundal height is about a month behind what it should be. The doctor told me it's probably reduced fluids but as far as I'm concerned a small baby or reduced fluid is both as scary as each other. I haven't been able to stop worrying so I know what you're going through.

Hopefully it can't be anything that bad from what I've found out but it doesn't help because you just want to know!! I also have an anterior placenta.

I read in another forum about a woman who had low amniotic fluid and she drank water like there was going to be a draught and her fluid levels went up. I don't know if it helped or not.

Also, it is the development of the baby's lungs which are affected by your fluid levels, but since you are 28 weeks, most of the development has already taken place - and lungs can still develop in the smallest amounts of fluid.

I am sure you will be fine. I know what it is like to feel out of control and worried about your baby - mine has spinal bifida. but there is only one thing you can do to help your baby - and that is look after yourself and remember that your baby feels your stress - so try to put it out of your mind until your next scan.
