So much for my easy pregnancy...

I had my 28 week check up on Wednesday. Was only supposed to go, get the usual poke and prod, and do my glucose challenge (the orange stuff isn't THAT bad when it's ice cold).

All of that sort of ends when the doctor announces she's sending you for an emergency scan, immediately. Everything up till now has been perfect. Not too sick, not too sore, completely uneventful. I have the last few vertebrae in my back fused together, and even they weren't bothering me until the last few weeks. Doctor prescribed a VERY comfy brace, that helped a lot.

Unfortunately, the brace was moving the baby into a position that was cutting off his oxygen. So, when I was at work on my feet all day wearing the brace, he wasn't getting his full oxygen supply. I noticed the last few days he wasn't moving as much, and really started freaking out Tuesday when even his usual music that gets him dancing, and a can of Cola, didn't get him to budge.

Had scan, baby boy is measuring exactly to date, weighing 1254 grams (about 2 1/2 lbs), big chubby cheeks. Reflexes all there, he's looking good, thank God.

So now I can't wear my brace. Which means all of the baby's weight is on the tip of my tailbone, which doesn't move. By noon, I can barely lift my legs to walk, I end up shuffling. Doctor is worried my tailbone is just going to crack under the weight of me being up and about at work.

So she tells me it looks like my mat leave starts in 2 weeks, as opposed to the 9 that I had planned. 7 weeks of pay gone. 2 months in bed.

Sorry for the long story. DH is being... unbelievable, in a very rotten sense. "Good, you'll have extra time to get the house clean", "We won't have to eat leftovers twice a week, you can cook good food each night", "You won't have an excuse to be too tired for sex when I feel like it". I LOVE my job, I am MISERABLE about leaving early, and I don't know how I'm going to get through the next 3 months

Oh hon, I feel for you. Having a baby is not an easy job and sometimes everything else has to be put on hold. Your hubby sounds ''lovely''- hope he was just joking. I would have a serious talk with him otherwise. Is there absolutely nothing else they could do to help your back, so you could avoid or cut down on bedrest?

Nope, nothing to be done for the back.In a normal pregnancy, the loosening ligaments mean that things can shift slightly. Most women get sciatica from the lower back shifting. I had the fusion done because of sciatica, amongst a bunch of other things. My back is held there with metal rods, screws and plates. It can't comfortably accommodate the baby's weight. We tried the brace first, thinking that would be a good solution, but the brace just led to other complications.

hi , sorry that your news hasnt been better at least bubs is doing great ,

i know it will be tough on you esp as it sounds like u love your job, think ur hubby needs a talking to you, the whole idea of you being put on early mat leave isnt so you can make sure the house is clean and your cooking from scratch each night, he needs to understand this is for your own good not his and if you ignore advice and dont rest you are going to do yourself more damage in the long run . maybe if he wont listen to you then you could take him to the next appt you have

take it easy hun listen to your body and rest lots and lots

Mmmmm... then, I am afraid, you have no choice. Perhaps you can do some work from home? Just a thought. Would keep you busy and not make you feel so out of touch..Hugs!

I'm so sorry, that sounds really rough. Any chance you can do part time work or they can accomodate you so that you can sit at work?

I'm so sorry you're having to finish work early hun but I'm happy your little man is doing so well, that must be comforting but I imagine it's very frustrating knowing you're going to be at home so much, but I'm sure you will feel better knowing you are doing the best thing for you and your baby. Take care. xx

Didn't read the other posts sorry... But you won't lose out on your mat and parental pay (how EI is broken down in Canada) Go to your local ei office.. tell them that you need the paper work for medical ei. You are entitled to up to 15 weeks of medical to be taken before your parental and maternity claims kick in... This will allow your claim to extend past the standard 50 weeks allowed... up to a total of 65 weeks.... Your doctor will need to sign a form saying that a medical condition is preventing you from working for this period of your pregnancy and you fill out a form that will basically say the same thing... the standard two week waiting period and you will be eligible to start your benefits

Pm me if you need more info please...

I cant believe your OH is being such a rotten sod!! I would have smacked my OH if he'd have said those things to me! Especially in a sad/worried state about the baby and the situation already!!

Im sorry that u have to come off early and have to be stuck in bed, but thank god it was detected before baby's oxygen supply resulted in worse effects!

baby will be grateful for your sacrifices, you're being a good mummy and doing best by your baby- thats the best you can do chick
