Recurrent UTIs / Leaking Urine

Hi

Since around 16 weeks I've had recurrent UTIs which have required antibiotic treatment.

The further along I go they seem to become more frequent with only about a 2 wk gap inbetween stopping medication and infection restarting.

At my last scan I was told that the babies foot was on my bladder and during last few weeks I seem to be constantly leaking urine {its def urine}

I've just finished my last day of antibiotics, I dont feel 100% so am thinking i'll prop need another course - Im worried that having these UTIs might cause problems for my baby and just wondered if maybe i should ask to be on permanent antibiotic treatment until ive given birth? x

I got rid of UTI without antibiotics, because, i believe, they can cause harm to the baby too. i took good quality cranberry tablets, lots of liquids and cut out processed sugar etc junk.. There are other natural treatments too, but, if you think antibiotics is the way to go, defo ask your GP, don't leave it like that.

Thanks hun, I ve tried a lot of things but the first infection I had went untreated so long i've ended up with scars on my kidneys which makes me more prone to infection and makes the infection slightky harder to treat and more painful etc.

I've still got back pains so i presume i need extended treatment at least for the time being, Im just concerned 1) - that the medication may harm the baby if im still taking it when in labour and 2) if im not on medication could i pass an infection onto the baby during labour

Gosh I've a headache so dont know if this makes any sense lol x

Sorry to hear it, hon.. but, if you take antibiotics and they help, why don't you continue with cranberry tablets for a while to see if they help to prevent UTI, they can be quite healing and, like I said, if you read online, you can find a lot of info on herbal remedies that are good for the urinary tract. When I was little, I had a defect in my urether and needed an operation, afterwards doctors prescribed me different teas (I remember one was juniper berry) that I had to drink for a while.. as well as had to avoid eating chocolate, anything irritating to the kidneys, bladder... In your case, you need a complex approach, everything is important- correct diet, liquids, remedies, rest etc etc... I hope you feel better soon. And I believe that after baby is here, UTI's get less frequent. I never had one before, so was really surprised when GP diagnosed me

I am not sure if the infection can pass to the baby, it could cause premature labour, but that is something else. Best to get on top of it.. speak to your doctor, they should also be aware that antibiotics don't do much in your case
