Circumcision - Page 10

Yea it is "normal" for my family. I am being pressed even after months and I just wish people would leave me alone about it! It was our decision and we made it...I think it should be each parents decision and that's it.

In Australia I don't think it's very common but I could be wrong? OH isn't done and I won't be getting my son done either... it hasn't even been brought up to me by family/midwives/obs/whoever else might ask if we want to get LO done. Is there anyone else in Aus who can say whether it's common or not as I don't have any idea lol.

I don't think it is as common as it once was, when my boys were born, I was asked if I was going to have them done (ages 13, 11, and 9), hubby wanted them done.
There was no way on earth he wanted to risk an infection when they got older (like he had) and have his boys scared and frightened and wheeled off to theatre where they are put them under a GA and they cut and stitch the foreskin back and the healing processes he said was painful and it was swollen and it hurt if any wee got near the cut. He still remembers it.
Being done as baby, there is no stitches, no theatre no nothing, only a little cotton ring around it which falls off in the bath after about 3-5days.

This is a really personal decission and people shouldn't be judged for what they decide (as I noticed others doing) (not you)

Most of the boys I know around my sons age ARE done, not sure about now, If I do have another boy this time, I will be having him done at days old like his brothers.

Sounds a lot like an episiotomy tbh but we all deal with it, I dont think it traumatises any of us, but then there has been a lot of talk of men being less likely to cope with pain lately on here

im happy with my choice not to get ds done, i did my research and the only reason it was ever done within certain religious groups is due to the areas where they lived it was more hygenic living in tents in the sand with having ants and other insects living in the sand they walked and slept on to have it done,
and as i dont live in a tent in the desert and ds has no medical issues why should i think its my choice to cut off part of his body?

ds does have an incomplete foreskin and the doctors did mention having it done when he was born but i saw no reason as it didnt caus him any problems
