I'm Currently Feeling: | Phlebotomist Went to the phlebotomist (sp?) this morning to have my second set of bloods taken.
The nurse had never been to my surgery before and have no fricken idea what she was doing. I handed her my sleeve for the antenatal screening and she said she'd never done one of them before.
She didn't know what bottles or samples to be taken so she took 2 extra bottles just in case... this makes the total sample amount to 6 Samples. She said that if its wrong they'll call me back!?!? Why would i be happy about this.
She never asked me my blood group, she never asked me when i had last eaten. She is supposed to ask me for my glucose test.
She really hurt me pulling the needle out and i have a huge bruise on my arm. Bearing in mind i'm a blood donor and the needles used in blood donation are a lot thicker than those when giving blood samples.
Sorry for the rant, she just upset me. She gave no thought for how much blood is safe for me to give, neither did she offer me anything to drink or ask if i was ok after giving it all. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | You're actually not supposed to give more than 5.. Well they wouldn't let the nurse in the path lab take 6 from me even though she wanted to. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | tht sounds awful! tht would have really upset me too as i hate having blood taken, and to make it worse the 1st lot of blood they took from me was horrible as they put the needle in and the vein collapsed and really hurt so they had to do it again. not a nice experience. just take it easy today as sounds like they took quite abit from you! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | OUCH! I'm so sorry! That sucks really badly. Try putting a bag of frozen veggies on the bruise, that used to help me. I didn't think there was a limit on how much they should take...generally I get 8-12 vials taken every time...even while pregnant. I haven't ever had them take any less I don't think...I hope your arm heals up quickly! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Sorry it was so terrible! When she said she didn't know what she was doing, I would have requested someone else! I also gave 6 during my first prenatal screening. Not fun! If they call you back, I would ask to see someone else, before even going to the appt. Hope your arm feels better! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Thanks ladies. I think she was just covering the dept as she had come from the local hospital.
The ladies who are normally in Phlebotomy are really nice. I think it just upset me more that she openly admitted that she had no idea what she was doing. I just don't understand why she bothered if she wasn't sure. Surely my baby deserves better care than that?
I'm upset she made me bruise coz i never even bruise when i donate blood. I just wish professionals would take more care. I trust these people. Maybe i'm just a little too trusting and should ask more questions.
