I have had quite a bit of starry vision for the past few weeks, even more so now. I once asked my GP about it but she said the only thing to worry about are visual disturbances such as big black dots in my vision. The only way I can describe what I'm having is that it is almost as though there are tiny specks of light floating around my vision... like sparks from a bonfire. Is this a red flag?

I had that too, the little floating dots but it would go away quickly.
I wouldn't worry too much hon, it sounds pretty normal what you've experienced but its always good to bring it up with your doctor or a 2nd opinion if you feel something isn't right.

Question though, did you have sex recently? as protein can show up that way because of the spermies

Thanks Jenny, that definitely makes me feel better. I think everything is just dandy, I'm good at getting myself worked up.

We did have sex in the middle of the night, so that could definitely be why there was protein. I had no idea that could do that. Thanks again!

As Jenny said, because of our increased blood volume we tend to have 'natural' visual distubances.

When I got pre eclampsia, it happened within a two week period. One appointment I was 120's/60's BP with some to no protien in urine (+1 or so), to 160/80 and +3 protien in my urine, I also had ALL of the abovementioned symptoms (visual disturbances, constant nagging headache, and enormous swelling in hands and face also in legs and stuff too but that' s also very common in all pregnancies). Mine onset at 35 weeks or so.

Don't worry, stay relaxed, note anything way out of the ordinary, and if you are very worried contact your doc. They'd rather have you come in than not come in and have an issue.

Protein in urine can occur after sex apparently...maybe this could explain it?
