Thanks everyone. You are all so very sweet! I have an appointment for a 4 hour class next Tuesday to teach me how to manage the GD. I hope diet alone will manage it. I thought I was eating ok but my MW says I need to be more careful with things like fruit juice and biscuits with dinner. Things could definitely be worse so I am trying to keep a positive attitude. At least it has been caught and my LO is still measuring 100% normal and is 100% healthy and very active

hey pepperflake we can be GD buddies, i found out today that i have it. i failed my 100 test too. so i have to test my sugar levels for 3 days and then take the values to my doctor and well see how to go about treating it. we can support each other! my husband is diabetic so i know a lot about diabetes and my mom is too. its not exactly the same as regular diabetes but its not the end of the world. if we are good about it, we have a good chance of having normal weight babies and not having to have c sections or the baby born with low blood sugar. feel free to pm me, and if u get any new info id love to hear what u know.

I'm so sorry you are going through this too but it is very comforting to have some support. I will definitely share anything I find out. It sounds like you are having to take a different approach by monitoring your sugar before you see someone about it. I wish I didn't have to wait until next week to figure things out. I'm trying to watch what I eat and get more exercise already though. Does your mother and husband find the diet very restricting?

well they both have full blow insulin dependent diabetes. what we have is just pregnancy diabetes. so we really have it much easier than them. most GD from what i have read is treated by diet. just watching the sugar intake and carbs. and sometimes if your sugar really is out of control with insulin. i have an excellent gp and im very confident she will treat it well. i just took my sugar now, im not measuring yet, ill start tomorrow. but it was a bit high.

Do you have any symptoms? I have been overly tired and sometimes after I eat, I feel kind of sick and have to rest for 30 minutes or so. I have also gained a lot of weight, which is something I have not had to deal with before. I also drink and urinate a lot. All of these I thought were just regular pregnancy symptoms until now. What did your sugar measure? I have no idea what normal is.

measured 135 which is a bit high but not too bad. im not sure exactly what they want us to keep it under. will find out from the doctor. i dont really have symptoms tho over the last few days i have been so thirsty and no water can quench my thirst. its horrible. i do feel tired but like u just thought it was third tri normal. i cant say i had any obvious symptoms tho after the glucose 100, i did almost faint from a low sugar. that was terrible my heart was racing, i was sweating and dizzy, i called DH and being a diabetic he recognized it immediately as a low sugar and told me to eat straight away, i felt better about ten min after id downed a fanta and ate a piece of pizza.

I felt the same way after both glucose tests and sometimes after eating. That has been going on for a month or so. Thats confusing because if our blood sugar is too high why do we get low blood sugar symptoms, especially after something with high glucose content?

I have also just been diagnosed with gestational diabetes and have been told to measure sugar levels 4 times a day. Have an appointment next week with a dietician to discuss things. I'm petrified and worried at the moment of having to go onto insulin injections as I hate needles. Hopefully if I am sensible then I can control it with diet alone.

its all about the amount of insulin. it can over compensate, under compensate, not regulate as it should..etc..
