We're having a homebirth any day now ^_^

I'm having a sweep early next week if nothings happened but I'm sooo ready within myself!

I've not packed anything for hospital haha I'm so disorganised!

We have an airbed for the lounge so its more comfy as its bigger and easier access for midwives/students etc ! We also have 2 buckets, 1 washing up bowl (for sick if needed haha), a pair of shower curtains for matress/surrounding area, a fridge stocked with isotonic drinks, a stack of towels, a tens machine and a freezer full of ice cubes made from apple and pear juice!!! (I've heard these are amazing for labour when you can't bear to eat or drink but need to - plus they taste LUSH!!!)

Hehe I'm so exited Really hoping she doesn't need inducing - that is my only worry!!!

Good luck if you decide to go down the home birthing route xX

Trying to decide if I like the air bed idea or not. I was planning on moving a single mattress (thats old and I don't mind if it gets wrecked) into the living room and covering with plastic sheeting. But the air bed idea also sounds good, if a little wobbly.

The one we've got is about 2 foot tall and a queensize so very big and sturdy its like a self-inflating divan!!

I love it cause we can have it anywhere in the house (although will probs be in the lounge cause its huuge!) and it means I'll have tonnes of room to sprawl out in front of the tv in comfort with loads of cushions hahaha plus cause its plastic means it'll wipe clean and help contain the mess if needs be and also I'll be at a good height =D !

We changed our minds at 35 weeks and decided on a home water birth too. I was really worried that the Midwife would be mad with me for changing my mind so late on, but she's been great. Really happy with our decision - I'm not worrying about the birth at all now. I was initially anxious about the hospital birth as we hadn't been able to have the tour of the maternity unit due to the swine flu - I'm someone who needs to familiarise myself with my surroundings and needed to visualise how the birth might be. I was also concerned that the pool might not be available when I went in. This way, everything is on my terms, in my space (and my germs!!). As mentioned elsewhere above, we've bought cheap shower curtains, got old towels, bowls, stocked up on energy snacks/drinks. Also, OH can sit and watch the footie if the labour goes on a bit!!! Seriously though, we can't wait for the experience and are really hoping it goes to plan. xx

weve today bought a couple of shower curtains...also bought a double quilt and pillow set to set up a little 'nest' in the living room next to where the birth pool will be.

we had thought about the air bed but ours is a low one and i just dont think i would be able to move comfortably on it.

i cant wait to go into labour!!

WOW!!!! any special requirements??? what about the mess ... etc .... did u use plastic sheets to protect matteress etc....
I THINK THIS JUST MAKES MORES SENSE TO ME AS BEEN ON MY OWN I'M RELYING ON FREINDS AND FAMILY AS BIRTHING PARTNERS.
This way if i do have long labour like i did with issy ... they can take it in turns make as much tea as they like .. and i think i'll feel more relaxed..
My midwife said i would have to change hospitals tho .. why when the one i'm booked into is closer .??? and again my midwife at the mo doesn't fill me with confidence .. but i know a few of the other midwifes in the area and they are fab ... how does it all work ??????
We used a couple of clean, cheap shower curtains and the inco pads the mws brought. I laboured on a stool, in the bath, over a beanbag and finally gave birth kneeling up on the bed. The m/ws sorted out the mess afterwards
My mil, mum and sil were sitting in the living room incase I wanted them. I had to change hospitals even though the one I was booked to was closer as the hospitals community m/ws served my postcode. I had shared care with my GP and the local maternity unit, a birth kit was dropped off with entonox at 37/38 weeks and when I went into labour the m/ws came out to me. I had two sets of midwives as my labour was long.

I hate this. Not a dig at you as you've obviously made the decision that's right for you, but I absolutely hate this idea that a healthcare professional can in any way allow or disallow a homebirth. Homebirth is a legal right and even high risk women are legally 'allowed' to make that choice for themselves.
