Do most women really make it to 40 Weeks?


I was just wondering....People always tell me when they had their baby...and I've been getting answers lik 36 weeks, 37 weeks...and such but never 40 weeks. Do most really make it to 40 weeks?

I was wondering this same thing too. I know a few girls who've gone over to 42 weeks and quite a few more who didn't make it past 38, but I don't know how far along the majority gets either.

I sure hope not! I think it is fairly common tho to go at least until your due date, especially when it is your first.

The avg. first pregnancy (if there is not medical intervention i.e. induction or c-section) is 41 weeks.

It really does vary person-to-person, pregnancy-to-pregnancy. Most women go into labour between 38 and 42 weeks... but there are of course those who go earlier, and those who cling onto them so long that they have to be induced. It really does seem to be luck of the draw.

My son was due 10th may, born 13th. My daughter was due 6th of june, born 7th june. My youngest was due 20th november, born 4th december.
So all of mine had been either on time or late xxxxxx

I've just read that first babies are often a week late and many first time mums are induced. My twin sister was induced at 15 days overdue.
