I made an excel file with all the stuff I needed.
There is no way to rely on my mental capacity at this point.

Just jot down on a piece of paper what you need to 'buy' get your bag at the same time if not got one already pop into town grab the to buys go home pack it straight into bag.

Have a check list of the stuff you already have but no in bag and pack this also - ticking off as you put the stuff in bag.

I freaked out over that thread the other day too.
Like you i have some things but not nearly all i need as im having to get it month to month as our wages come in.
I have a big list though of just essentials and an extra list of wants for bubs and so long as i get the essentials first off im hoping we'll be ok.

When should we be preparing a hospital bag though? is now too soon or should i be seriously considering it?

Try to make a list of the bare essentials you would need to get by if that should happen, make a date to get them by and hopefully should make you feel a bit more relaxed about it.

My late Nan always used to say "babies always come with their own loaf of bread" still not quite sure what that means but im thinking maybe it means that people get by and make whatever situation they are in good.

Also think back to our mums and grandparents time.......the things we think are essential now probably didnt even exist back then. They got by on terries (which im doing) soap, boobs for food and a cot/crib and probably knitted everything or made most things for baby or had 2nd hand/handmedowns.

worse case scenario- people would run around and help you out with it all. (apart from me who is stuck on a poopy island away from all my family and friends!!! arrrgghhh!!)

Since I am planning a home birth, I have not put much though into getting a bag ready. I guess I should start looking at things I want to use during my labor and get them together.
